Hell is other people removing your cig (Sartre airbrushed)
"France's National Library has airbrushed Jean-Paul Sartre's trademark cigarette out of a poster of the chain-smoking philosopher to avoid prosecution under an anti-tobacco law.

'Smoking,' the Left-wing existentialist wrote, is 'the symbolic equivalent of destructively appropriating the entire world.'

And yet in its poster for an exhibition to mark the hundredth anniversary of Sartre's birth the Bibliothèque Nationale de France decided, destructively or not, to edit out the philosopher's Gauloise."

1. Welcome to DU Jesus Saves
there is a lot of anti-Christian sentiment on this board. I hope you don't take it personally.

2. Anti-Christian sentiment?
I say bring it on.

Although I suspect that those that would have a misunderstanding of the religion, and have had their minds filled with the poison of certain false prophets.

5. There are also a lot of Christians who don't like modern Pharasaism
Some are quite vocal -- and entertaining.

Jim Wallis has a lot of boosters here, too.

9. The Main Reason For That, I Believe
is that most self-identified Christians, are not, ifn fact, by their ACTIONS...Christians! They are the modern-day equivalent of the Parisees and Sadducees of Jesus' day.

And these same people are the ones who go about proseltyzing, promising hell fire brimstone and damnation for those who fail to convert their beliefes to EXACTLY match the proseltyzer's beliefs. They would make any Nathaniel Hawthorne inspired preacher proud!

The reason Christianity has such a rotten name is because those who would convert others are usually REALLY BAD at converting...and even WORSE at living what they preach!!

What is needed is for a critical mass of TRUE CHRISTIANS (and I know they are out there) to come together and shout down the false ones. Unfortunately, in our day and age...only those who shout the loudest are heard. Time for a new voice for Christianity.

How dare they fuck up sacred art, even if it's for a poster.

What's next? Putting fucking pants onto Michelangelo's David when advertising because it violates public indecency laws? :grr:

10. We did the same to Jackson Pollock
The USPS released a 33 cent stamp commemorating Jackson Pollock in 1999 as part of its "Celebrate the Century" series. The stamp was based on a 1949 Life magazine photograph in which Pollock is painting with a cigarette dangling from his lips. The cigarette was removed for the stamp:
