Both at the time and now with historical perspective.

1. 1770-1827 -- those decades; Austria. Wasn't there but it rocked.

2. Punk Rock and its DIY attitude inspired so much great stuff
Not that they all *remained* great for long, but so many started off inspired by the Pistols and the Clash, and so on.

U2
Simple Minds
Joy Division
The Cure
The Stranglers
Siouxsie and the Banshees
Bauhaus
Rank and File
Big Country
Duran Duran

and then there were others:
Joe Jackson
Elvis Costello
Japan
Devo
Blondie
Lone Justice

and a hundred others.

But what do I know? That's just the era I grew up in, and the time I paid the most attention to what was going on. All of the decades have their good points and bad.
