Poll question: What ails me?
About 3 weeks ago I got "half a sore throat" and the sniffles..followed immediately by a barking-honking(like a goose) dry cough..

The sore throat went away. but the coughing will NOT :grr:. It's better and I only have paralyzing...almost pass-out coughing spells a few times a day now..but my husband is bugging me to go to the doctor.

We argue about this daily, and I usually go on the front porch while he's asleep when I have a "spell".. Now I'm afraid the neighbors will start to complain:P..

I finally broke down and got some robitussin and other than give me heartburn it does little.

So...whaddah I got

1. I don't know.
I hate that half a sore throat, when it hurts on only one side. I'd rather have no sore throat.

2. Your throat got irritated.
So now your body is telling you there is something building up and to cough. Plus there is leftover fluid in your lungs. A hot toddy will work. One night, take some Jack Daniels or other type of bourbon like liquor and add hot water, some honey, and a lemon wedge to it. If the first one doesn't work, do it again. You'll begin to see relief very soon following this prescriptioin. If not, you won't care that you are coughing any more, because you'll mellow out and eventually sleep comfortably.

6. My grandma use to do that for us as kids.
From my memory it did work out for the better.

13. my guess too
but on the internets they pretty much said there was nothing that the doctor could do and it had to run its course (about 100 days).
So Whoop it up.

10. Whooping Cough has been going around a lot more this year
For years, because children are vaccinated against it, there have not been that many cases of it, but since this past fall, there have been fairly large outbreaks (at least here, in the Twin Cities area). See a doctor, you do not want to spread this around.

12. sounds more like whooping cough, but still could be asthma...
mine sometimes only results in an ugly cough, comes in fits and rocks my entire body. After an entire night of sleeping on the bathroom floor, waking up coughing and hacking crap up, I got a breathing treatment at my dr.'s office and was all better. get to a dr. and find out for sure. whooping cough is contagious and asthma can be life threatening... hope you feel better really soon, and that it's neither, just something simple like a weird cold. :-)

9. Please, go to a doctor....
Three weeks is too long.

If you have to get a shot, go buy yourself a couple of comic books. (My mother always let me pick out a couple at the drugstore while she got the prescription.)

14. Please just go to see the doctor. I hate it, too, but you have to.
Find out what's wrong and get it treated. I know how unpleasant it can be, and I blow off going to the doctor, as well, unless it's my pets. Just please do it and let us know how you are. We cannot be without you.:-)
