"If I had my way, I'd turn them all into Young Republicans."
Yikes. This is what one of the parents (a Reagan fan) said after my first grader's presentation on the presidents! Each child in the class dressed as a different president (about 10 kids) and gave a short speech. This guy's kid was Reagan.

After the presentation, the father was allowed to get up and read from a book of Reagan quotes. He started out by jokingly teaching the kids about "supply side economics," before reading the quotes.

In my head, I'm screaming - IRAN CONTRA YOU ASSWIPE! as I'm sitting there with arm up clearly showing my blue and black rubber bracelets.

It took all I had not to leave the room. Then, when the kids were having treats, I overheard him make the comment in my subject line. Of course, he tried to do a bit of Hilary bashing - but shut his yap after I glared at him. What a fucking jackass.

Now I'm in a bad mood.

2. SANDINISTA!!!!!!!!!!
I would have paid good money for you to have screamed that and left the room.

I would send a note to the principal and teacher that we can study history without politicizing it, particularly at that grade level.

3. I'd tell him
"And if I had MY way, I'd turn them all into Young Democrats. Wanna go outside and have a smack down over it? The kids could take some pictures, put them up on the school website...."

What an ASSwipe. Nowdays, there's no way I could have not said anything.

7. He seemed to be friends with the teacher. I can't sacrifice my
daughter's education over some idiot. But I did teach her that if the subject of supply side economics ever came up again she was to ask if that were the same as "voodoo economics."

6. It's not difficult to turn First Graders into Young Republicans.
Just teach them that lying is fun.

The comeback was, "It's a great group of kids--why would you want to do something like that?"

Ah well.

12. In hindsight, it's easy to come up with insults, but at the time,
my head was about to explode and if I had said anything at all, I might not have been able to stop.

Again, I only exercised this restraint because he clearly knew the teacher. It's a small community, so it's quite possible they are neighbors.

13. I know
I'm in the same boat. You always think of the good ones afterwards.

I tangled with some coaches in my son's baseball league once and regretted it.

9. Sorry - I'm out of the loop
What do the blue and black rubber bracelets represent? I know the yellow ones have something to do with the guy who won the bike race in France (who's also something of a Bush supporter).

11. The blue is a bracelet that signifies a demand that this
administration start telling the truth - about Halliburton, about the war, about voting irregularities, etc. It's blue because blue represents the democratic party.

The black one is a rejection of the election results and stands for not voting for this administration - GWB is not my president.

I also have a rainbow one that I found with the words, "God bless the world."
