Sebhorric dermatitis stinks
I've had these small itchy bumps on my scalp for the longest of time.

Sometimes a bump will get large and painful and ultimately burst, with the hair in the area falling out but growing back a few months later.

I've tried every OTC shampoo and my dermotologist is giving me everything he can think of too.

But, being human, we're all prone to missing something. Why does a bump become inflammed, painful, swollen, then burst? YUCK!

1. I went to Cosmetology School years ago
Try rinsing your hair with a solution of vinegar and water after shampooing your hair and then rinse the solution out with cool water.
If you don't like the smell of vinegar use lemon juice and water.

It takes care of hair care product buildups and that might be the reason that you have sebhorric dermatitis.

2. Sounds like a topical yeast infection.
Which is often OFTEN misdiagnosed as sebhorretic type condition.
In fact most chronic acne isn't acne at all, but yeast infection.

A topical ointment along the lines of nystatin should get you all cleared up in less than a week.

8. Sadly no, nystatin isn't over the counter, but mebbe your doc
will call it in for you, so you don't have to make a whole trip. But like I said, many MANY skin issues are diagnosed as acne, when in fact they're bacterial or yeasty type little problems, easily solved by this mild, non-reactive ointment.

4. Are you taking meds similar to Prilosec or Nexium?
The doctors forget to tell you they keep your body from processing B12 properly with long term use.

One of the biggest symptoms of B12 deficiency is skin problems.

I'm on no drug that interferes with B12 processing. But I might have a B12 deficiency.

5. ive had atopical dermititis
for a good portion of my life. it went away for the last few years but recently reared its head on my right arm. i blame society frankly.

It's to blame for any number of things, but Mother Nature is guilty for most skin conditions.

Unless you live in Los Angeles, that smog can do all sorts of things...

10. Funny you should say that...
because mine cleared up as soon as I left Los Angeles.

While it was going on, tho, I did find one -and only one- shampoo that helped. KMS Moisturizing Shampoo.

9. you might also try . . .
a shampoo made with Australian tea tree oil (melaleuca) . . . it's a great natural antiseptic that's used in a lot of different products, generally quite successfully . . . here's one; I'm sure you can find more with a Google search . . .

11. I second the tea tree oil shampoo. A natural one from Health food store.
I have a very itchy and bump-prone scalp and this shampoo took care of it in 2 days.

13. I've got it too.
My best shampoo is Reme-T. It is heavy tar and normally has to be ordered by your pharmacy (non-prescription though). It keeps the problem completely under control.

14. Sounds like "ringworm." If your hair is falling out. Is it in a circle?
Do a Google, it doesn't sound like what you say. If it's ringworm you can buy an over the counter topical.
