Does anyone remember rubber floor basketball courts?
My old High School used to have one but they put a wood court over top of it in 1988 because the guys the played basketball said it burned them badly if they slid across it. I just saw a Pistol Pete clip on ESPN Classic that had him playing at NC State and they had a rubber floor and it just brought back the memories.

1. There was a school we played against with a rubber court
We played them a few times per year. You came to realize where the "dead spots" in the court were.

3. "Dead spot"
A place in the court where the ball would not have the same bounce as the rest of the court.

I played in Wickes Arkansas. The school I am talking about though was Cove Arkansas.

5. the LA Baptist College basketball teams once played on carpet.
The "gym" was nothing of the kind; it was a huge multi-purpose room at a church that was part of another Christian campus. The pattern on the carpet was a regulation basketball court, and there were non-retractable wooden backboards built into the ceiling.

Oh, the rug burns we treated for weeks afterwards.

12. I treated them.
And you never HEARD so much whining about making them keep those damned burns covered. They only believed it was necessary when they had to sit out a game because they couldn't bend the knee. :eyes:

Never played basketball myself.

Most of our games were played at my Middle School which had that type of floor. I usually played Shooting Guard or Small Forward.
