Opt your child out of school-based military recruitment.

I've been looking for a copy of this form, and found on on the Veterans for Peace website. I thought I would share it.

If this form is not filled out and submitted to your school, the No Child Left (Unrecruited) Act requires your child's high school to give your child's contact information to the military.

1. I'm a bit biased being on active duty,

but what's wrong with saying, "no, I'm not interested?"

If it weren't for recruiters, I probably wouldn't of enlisted. I'm glad many times over that I did. (But I can't wait to get out :P )

2. Saying "I'm not interested" isn't enough.

They don't take no for an answer. Not anymore. In many cases, they will phone up high school students nightly, trying to wear them down so that they will come into the recruitment center just so the recruiters will leave them alone. Which is exactly what the recruiters want.

My daughter is 14, and she's already getting hassled by the Army National Guard.

3. Recruiters are just doing their job.

Surely, there are some unethical ones out there, but for the most part, they're just trying to get the job done. There's nothing wrong with visiting a recruitment center as long as you don't sign any paperwork.

When I start getting the harrassing phone calls, I'm not going to think twice about telling them to fuck off, and precisely how to do it.

5. Are you sure this specific form must be submitted?

I have a friend who has a son who is a sophomore in high school. She told me she was required to send a letter to the school in order to remove her son's name from the military recruitment list. I definitely want to let her know if a specific form is required.
