Sirius just had chemotherapy #2. Some very good news!
Sirius had his second chemotherapy on Friday (3/11). I dropped him off at 8:30 am and picked him up at 2:00 pm. When I walked in the vet clinic to pick him up, the staff was ecstatic. The veterinary oncologist came out and called Sirius a "miracle" dog. The x-rays and ultra-sound they did before the chemo treatment on Friday revealed that almost all of the many tumors in the lungs appear to be GONE. The big tumor on top of the left lung is GONE. There are a couple of small spots on the lungs, but the x-rays (when viewed next to those taken 2/14) are fantastic. The significance of this is that once cancer spreads into a dog's lungs, chemo and radiation therapies are seldom effective.

The primary tumor (prostate) is still there, but slightly smaller. Dr. W. was excited about that observation too, since that was after just one chemo session.

The staff was absolutely amazed, too, at how well Sirius feels and how frisky he is. Since that first chemo three weeks ago, Sirius has started acting more and more like a dog five years younger. This certainly vindicates the decision to put him through chemo (as does his superb toleration of the treatment).

Old Sirius has had a lot of love helping him through this ordeal. We realize that it is not over yet, but optimism is now the prevailing attitude.

Sweet Sirius

I'm so happy for you two! Sirius is such a neat looking dog - what is he? Mutt mix, or do you know what breed(s)?
