Is Justin setting Sophie up to protect him when Ben finds him?

I'm addicted to the show. Can hardly wait until 9PM tonight. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

watch it tomorrow night. I wished I had seen the first season. Thinking seriously about getting it on e-bay. Right now I'm also excited about watching the second show of the second season of the HBO series DEADWOOD which also comes on tonight.

As the day's injured recoup, the night brings a new set of tensions. Alma and an increasingly self-destructive Bullock face an abrupt decision on their future, even as the Sheriff seeks to make good on a family pledge to recover his badge and guns. At the Gem, while Swearengen readies for another showdown with Bullock, infighting between Adams and Dority yields more feed for Wu's pigs. Doc Cochran is surprised by Calamity Jane, returned to camp in a state of inebriated deterioration.

I was freaked when they tarred and feathered whats-is-name. It never occured to me how brutal that act really was.

Will the news about Hawkins being a healer spread quickly?

I hope Sophie doesn't turn to the dark side. I like her. Will she be raped by the Rev like her mother was raped when she was conceived?

...according to the ghost of Lodz. As far as I can figure out I think "Omega" = 'the end', and might have something to do with that vision of her & Ben making love at the Trinity site when the a-bomb goes off, bringing the age of wonder to an end.

From the previews it looks likely that Scudder's gonna die soon. I suspect this is gonna put Justin & Ben on a more equal footing, and Ben will start feeling pain when Justin does nasty things... just for symmetry. Kinda how like Justin pukes milk whenever Ben does something good...

and she and Ben did the deed and we think she's pregnant does that explain why she is the "Omega" = culmination, a mixing of the lines or the last avatar?

Also, I've been noticing the good begets evil, evil begets good pattern. What I mean is that Management (good) is Justin's (bad) father. Scudder (bad) is Ben's (good) father. So does it follow that Justin (bad), being Sophie's (good) father mean that Sophie (good) and Ben (good) will have the ultimate evil one? But then there's the problem of Scudder's mom. Was she good or bad? She did kill everyone when Henry was born but was that a good thing or a bad thing?

Also it is interesting to me that Sophie, unlike the Virgin Mary, is "of the blood line" and wasn't a virgin when she became pregnant (assuming that she is).

According to Apollonia Sophie who is the one who had been reading the cards the whole time. Therefore Sophie has gifts that she hasn't come to terms with, doesn't really know what she is capable of and is "refusing" them. What I noticed was that when Sophie was around Ben she was seeing her mother. Since she's been around Iris/Justin she hasn't (to our knowledge) had any more visitations from Apollonia. Meanwhile, as the carnivale gets closer to Mintern Lodz's control/possession of Ruthie is growing stronger.

Which brings me to my final questions/observations, Lodz gave up his sight for a part of what Scudder had. How, if at all, does this affect what final Justin's boon is? If Lodz, Apollonia, & Ruthie's roustie can "come back" how soon will Management & Scudder make themselves known? Is Ruthie's sight attributable to that fact that she was revived using Lodz or did Ben it to her, like Scudder gave it to Lodz?

I'm not a Christian and I sometimes tend to see the symbology in this and other shows (Twin Peaks and X-Files) from a little bit different paradigm than other people. For instance, I see the characters in Carnivale as part of a pantheon of deities (both major and minor) rather than focusing in on the Jesus-Ben/Lucifer-Justin viewpoint.

I'm trying to find last night's episode to download right now (I have all of the other episodes on my hard drive). Such an amazing show.
