The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center is the premier animal-oriented poison control center in North America. So it's the best resource for any animal poison-related emergency, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Make the call that can make all the difference: (888) 426-4435.

6. Hydrogen peroxide.
Give 1-3 tablespoons depending on the size of the dog. Can repeat in 15 minutes or so. But do try to call an emergency vet while you are waiting for the puke to see if there is anything else you need to do. They may have you call the animal poison control center - this requires a credit card to pay their fee. (If you want to go ahead and call poison control on your own, the ASPCA hot line is 888 426 4435.)

7. Use caution though
in some cases inducing vomiting is NOT recommended and can make matters worse. That is why I edited my post above for the OP to call a vet first.

9. Inducing vomiting should be OK with bug spray.
It's generally not caustic. But you're right - best to be sure. There should be a short blurb on the label too if vomiting is contraindicated - look at the fine print on the side of the bottle before doing anything. (BTW, I am a veterinarian, just not a toxicologist. I have induced vomiting in several dogs that have swallowed various sorts of bug spray without a problem. Always a good idea to double-check, though!)

8. If he did't swollow the cloth
I can't see that vomiting would do any good. He should see a vet!

10. Vomiting will get the toxins out of his system
before any damage is done. Yes, he should be examined to make sure everything is OK, but sometimes quick removal of the offending substance is most important, especially in cases where there may not be immediate veterinary assistance. (This is assuming that the bug spray does not contain any ingredients that can cause damage on the way back up, as the previous poster mentioned - hence the suggestion to check the container and call poison control if necessary.)

11. I used hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting with my lab once
Unfortunately, it took about 10-15 minutes. i freaked out in the meantime and started heading to the vet. We got about a block from my house when he started throwing up in my car.

Oh yea....did I mention it was just before sundown on the 4th of July and pretty much ruined both mine and the vet's holiday? Felt so bad he rushed to meet me at the clinic. But my beloved lab turned out to be allright and that was the most important thing. I just lost him in january after 11 great years.

Hope your dog is ok too!
