Green Day: American Idiot.
I hear that it is a political diatribe of a concept album against the current administration. Most people on here seem to like it. I was never much of a Green Day fan, liked some of their tunes, but this album sounds really interesting to me. Tell me about it.

1. Best Green Day album ever
I was a casual Green Day fan too. This is certainly one of the best albums of the year. The message and music are both great. It isn't all political but most of it is. I love it.

2. so if I go out and pluck down a half an hour of my life on a cd
I'm not going to have to come here and say bad things about you. it's a decent cd to own right, you're putting your rep on the line.

9. it's an investment.
you'll love it. if you've liked ANY green day music in the past, you'll LOVE this disc. and you have to get the whole disc. just downloading the songs is kinda pointless.

Their sound has matured. Its not so much bubble gum-punk anymore.

wtih some nice blasting rock and roll and variety of other musical styles, to boot. Worth the price just for the opening song.

23. Considering their first album was called Dookie
I think its very safe to say they have matured...

that being said Dookie was awsome too.

Ive been saying to my friends....."you know the world is fucked up when Greenday get political"

29. well
"considering their first album was called dookie"

sorry, as a long time green day fan, i must correct you. their first album was '1039 smoothed out slappy hours' and then they put out 'kerplunk' and then 'dookie'.

8. It's better than the past couple albums
I like it better than Warning and Nimrod, but nothing will compare to Dookie.

12. Best. Political song. Ever.
Seriously. That and "Minority" are perfect rallying songs for the left.

24. No way
I love American Idiot but there are too many great political songs to call this the best. I can't even call it the best one released in the past year since so many artists have been putting out great political songs lately, like The Revolution Starts Now by Steve Earle.

26. Well, it's my favorite...I love Green Day anyway
NoFx, CCR, and others have come out with some good ones too. The best collection of political songs is the "Rock Against Bush" album.

13. It's political? Anyone have lyrics?
I've seen posters saying it's like a "rallying cry" for the left. Does anyone know any lyrics off hand? My curiosity is killing me now. Actually, I'm going to look it up on the net. Be back in a sec. :-)

15. Here:
From the song Holiday:
Zieg Heil to the president gasman
Bombs away is your punishment
Pulverize the Eiffel towers
Who criticize your government
Bang bang goes the broken glass and
Kill all the fags that don't agree
Trials by fire, setting fire
Is not a way that's meant for me
Just cause, just cause, because we're outlaws yeah!

And from the song Jesus of Suburbia:
Everyone is so full of shit
Born and raised by hypocrites
Hearts recycled but never saved
From the cradle to the grave
We are the kids of war and peace
From Anaheim to the middle east
We are the stories and disciples
Of the Jesus of suburbia
Land of make believe
And it don't believe in me
Land of make believe
And I don't believe
And I don't care!
I don't care!

16. For others interested, here you go:
Don't wanna be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation under the new media.
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mindfuck America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
Well that's enough to argue.

Well maybe I'm the faggot America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along in the age of paranoia.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
Well that's enough to argue.

Don't wanna be an American idiot.
One nation controlled by the media.
Information nation of hysteria.
It's going out to idiot America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.

14. I personally can't wait to see them this summer
They're playing Roskilde Festival along with Black Sabbath (the original lineup), Foo Fighters & Audioslave - and the rumor mill is speculating in Iron Maiden & Rammstein on top of that. Time for :headbang: methinks.

If you get the chance, GO! I was highly skeptical about going with my Green Day freak friend, but I'm glad I threw down the $40 to see them. Only $40 for a great fucking show!
