I drove all the way the hell across the metroplex for a meeting today. Through horrible traffic. So far away I had to leave 90 min. early to ensure I'd get there on time.
When I got there, the ENTIRE building was empty. It was eerie. No receptionist. No presenters. No people. So I wandered around, looking in every conference room. Dark. No one. I consulted my day planner--yep, March 14, 1:00.
Yet no one there. I've NEVER seen this building with no one in it. So I started imagining that I was like the last person on earth and some kind of meteor had taken everyone out but I had this weird immunity or something. Or I had some special purpose. Then I started thinking about the 80s movie "Night of the Comet" and for some reason that got me to thinking about the Flash Gordon movie from the 80s.
Then the pay phone behind me rang and I jumped so hard I dropped my diet Coke. I picked my drink up, then walked over and answered the pay phone. Someone was there, I could tell, but no one spoke. I kept saying hello, until finally they hung up.
I decided that was perfect for the drama I was thinking of in my head anyway.
Then I called my boss on my cell phone and he said "Maybe you should get out of there" kinda weird. He was creeped out that not a soul was in the building (it's normally quite crowded).
So that kind of scared me and I left.
I came back to my office to find out the meeting is on April 14.
