RED SOX POSTS: THE GNAT IN THE EARS.
Is it me, or are the vast majority of the baseball posts just Red Sox fans trying to pick a fight?

Cowboy up? The Sox need to grow up. You're just setting yourself for a HUGE letdown. All that jibberjabbering will be for naught. That's just my opinion.

And the "highest payroll in baseball for years" is effectively a BS argument. That phrase or any derivation will cause you to be cursed for 100 years.

BTW...what is Manny's salary these days?

Yankees are champions of team sports. When you think of the New York Yankess you think of EXELLENCE. 26 TIME WORLD CHAMPION. That is more than any other team in all of sports. They have a right to be arrogant. They earned it the old fashion way.....WINNING WITH CONSISTENCY!

12. No one has the RIGHT to be ARROGANT
especially not the YANKEE FANS!

As I said, this is getting to predictable...people making up for their (ahem) shortcomings with typical bombast.

:boring:

3. From an unbiased perspective
Edited on Tue Oct-14-03 01:06 PM by Meowser
I'm a San Francisco Giants fan, prefer NL baseball, and don't have a pony in this race. There has been some hostile remarks from both Sox and Yankee fans, but it seems that the Yankee fans are on the offensive. Many are displaying the arrogance that makes the Yankee fandom the most despised in baseball. Your thread proves my point.

It would be better for all if they took that attitude to baseball forums, and tried to respect their fellow DUers. The Red Sox and the Yankees are good teams. But the Yankees fans are bringing the tone of discourse down.

4. Up until this year's playoffs, I didn't give even half a shit about
baseball, but for some reason I haven't been able to suss out just yet, I really, really want the Red Sox to beat the Yankees, and I will actually watch a Cubs/Sox series. Maybe I just love rooting for perennial underdogs, or maybe I'm a masochist. Or maybe I need something to distract me from the evils of the Bush administration, if only for a little while.

5. I'm from Chicago and
a big Cubs fan. I would love to see a Red Sox vs. Cubs World Series, but if the Yankees make it back in there then I'll be pulling for the Cubs all the more. New York bones ass.

Edited on Tue Oct-14-03 01:08 PM by displacedvermoter
in the bullpen. Would that be jibberJABBING? What is your opinion of that? And isn'that the "highest" payroll EVER? By far? Perhaps a BS argument, but certainly opening you up to a HUGE letdown should you lose.

From an Atlanta Braves fan who was so appalled by Saturday's fiasco that I probably won't watch another baseball game till spring.

8. Whenever I play sports video games, I cheat like hell and get all the best
players. I turn off the salary cap so I can be guaranteed to destroy any competion. I create my own players with maxed out stats. It's fun for me because I'm winning, but it's not the least bit competitive or fair, and if I'm playing against someone other than the computer, I pick an un-fixed team to make it fair.

What the Yankees do is the real life equivalent of my video game cheating, and is a big reason I didn't give a shit about baseball for years until this year, when it seems the Sox have a chance at defeating the Yankees.

21. I guess you don't have a 5-4 record
I play fair against the computer because it is not fun destroying them, I like to build up the best team ever the fair way.

14. Look back and count ALL the player hating Red Sox threads...
They outnumber any pro-Yankee threads 10-1. The Sox will NEVER win a world series if they keep paying attention to what the Yankees are doing. Lots of projection. For example:

Most EVIL Sports Franchise
Buncha Yankee pitchers are on their way to court on assault charges
Dear NY Yankees Fans
IF the Red Sox win the ALCS, Yankee fans on DU will...
The Guy The Yankees Beat Up Was A Special Ed Teacher

Talk about lowering the tone of discourse.

17. I WILL BE THE FIRST YANKEE FAN to congratulate the Sox if they win...
That's a alot of pride swallowing for this Bronx boy. I suspect if the Sox lose we'll just here more crap about how your high payroll is higher than our high payroll.

This post, for example. What possible purpose do you have in making a post like this other than to "pick a fight"?

22. Just another reason to Hate the Yankees
In my house, Republicans and Ankees as my two year old calls them are equally despised. My son already knows (ha ha) that Ankees hit there mothers, drink whiskey and smoke cigarettes. Also they take little kids toys. He does not wasn to grow up to be an Ankee.

Additionally from google convicted and Steinbrenner

The "convicted" portion of the comment referred to Steinbrenner's connections with former president Richard Nixon and Watergate scandal: He was indicted on 14 criminal counts on April 5, 1974 and pleaded guilty to two: illegal campaign contributions and obstruction of justice. He was fined $20,000. Baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn suspended him from baseball for two years, later reduced by nine months. He returned to the Yankees in 1976.

Ankee involvement in Watergate. How could anyone who is not from NY like the Ankees
