How dominant is clear channel radio in your city?
In Atlanta, clear channel owns 2 of the top 10 stations and 6 stations overall - including WMAX, and all 80s station that plays 99 Luft Baloons several times a day.

2. In my hometown of Youngstown, OH
CC owns 80% of the radio properties in the market!!! Cumulus owns the other 20%. There is one weak AM indy-owned urban talker left, and another weak AM sitting dark.

CLEAR CHANNEL SUCKS!

9. Here's the story on it
For 30+ years it was the Number 1 rocker, big hit radio, and eventually had an album rock FM. In the mid-80s, Cumulus bought off the FM and moved it.

As a kid, it was the station to listen to... I ended up doing weekends there BEFORE I was out of high school!

Years went by...

Due to family medical situation, I ended up back there and this goofy guy still owned the AM... I did afternoon talk there thru the 2000 election cycle, but in Jan of 2001 it was forclosed on...

It's licenced for 24 hours, 1000 watts days, 500 watts nights, but the signal is VERY polarized and uneven in outlying areas.

If I believed I could make it break even I'd certainly spearhead a buyout, but I just don't think with the bad voodoo politics in the area AND Clear Channel's overwhelming presence, that it would be worth the effort.

Rick

4. Not sure
Gave up on commercial radio a long long time ago. I forget which company bought out the last Classical music station here but I don't think it was Clear Channel. With the death of WQRS I gave up on commercial radio. Public radio is the only thing left on the airwaves.

8. Miami
I know WHYI Y100 Miami is Clear Channel, and it is such a puppy for Dubya, they always play soundbites before and after songs of Dubya, and it's a Top 40 station, not some AM channel! The morning show always supports Bush and was very anti Janet Reno in the 02 Governor's race. Always mocking Middle Easterners/Indians, very obnoxious.

12. Too &!*@#^$% dominant!

I'm not sure exactly how many stations Clear Channel owns in Hatford, CT, but they certainly have the lion's share of the market.

They had 5 stations 6 months ago. At the time, however, they were considering a purchase of Fisher Broadcasting, which would have gained them at least two more in this market and about 30 more in the area of the Pacific Northwest reaching from mid Oregon to the Canadian border.

I've not heard anything about Fisher since. They may have quietly acquired on gone about the business of erecting an empire.

6 in Dallas (I've noted their position in the most recent Arbitron Ratings for this market):
KDGE 102.1 (Alternative), 11th
KDMX 102.9 (Adult Contemporary), 16th
KEGL 97.1 (Rock) 19th
KFXR AM-1190 (Fox Sports) :puke: no ranking
KHKS 106.7 (Contemporary Hits), 10th
KZPS 92.5 (Classic Rock), 15th

So basically, they control a lot of what young people in this area listen to. Funny thing is, the best they could do was 10th. (Gotta own a country station in this market if you want to consider yourself dominant.)

17. Cleveland is dominated by Clear Channel
It's one of the reasons I'm going to put in a CD/MP3 player in my car. Except for NPR and the stuff I can sometimes get from across the lake, Cleveland radio sucks bird.

:bounce: The Pukes pretty much have the city's talk and news stations wired:wall-to-wall! A liberal talk alternative would "grow an audience like a weed!" IMHO.:toast:
