The #1 rated morning DJ in Dallas is gay and out. The sheriff of Dallas
County is a female Hispanic lesbian. Who is also out.

I just wanted to throw those two facts out there to give some hope today to those in the fight for GLBT rights.

The day will come, I really believe so. It will come.

1. Jagger?
Is he the #1 rated DJ?

I love Lupe... had a huge sign in my yard, canvassed... soooo glad she won!

2. YEP!!!
Chris Jagger! They even did a write up on him in the Dallas Republican Pukey News the other day.

He's been out on the air for four years now. And even though the EDGE is a Clear Channel owned station, they get pretty damn edgey (no pun intended) and they don't sit there and say repukey things like OTHER stations (KISS 106.1) do.

I love Jagger. Did you know that's not his real last name? He doesn't give it out, for privacy reasons.

I love Lupe, too. I got to meet her more than once and I went out to dinner with all of the Dallas County candidates one night right before the election (I worked on a particular campaign and was invited).

Long live Lupe!

That's the only morning show I can tolerate listening to. Although I'm listening to more of the worker's show on KNON and a bit of NPR nowadays.

I love that when they mention Jagger's sexuality they do so in such an open and fearless way... someday I hope the whole world is like that.

3. I think that a major factor behind advancing gay rights in the U.K.
Has been people knowing gays and lesbians. At school I thought that they would be these wierd 'other' people (being so damn stupid didn't realise I was one); I got to university and met some, then realised that they were just the same as everybody else - then finally realised that my total lack of interest in girls had some cause (duh).

Knowing a gay, having a gay relation; these will do far far more to combat homophobia in the long term than any legislation or political action.

4. YOU said it.
Absolutely frigging right.

And that's why I think kids today aren't as homophobic as previous generations. You have more kids who are out earlier in life, so they know more gay friends.

When I was teaching (13 year olds), there were several kids who were out and to the other kids, it was just no big deal at ALL.

I love it!

5. Harvey Milk said if every gay person actually 'came out'
then people would find it extremely hard to continue to discriminate because you would find out gay people are your sister, your kindergarden teacher, your lawyer, your mechanic, etc.

Everyone should see the documentary "The Times of Harvey Milk." It won an Oscar for best documentary.

7. That's why I wish more gay people would come out.
BUT I do understand their reasons for not doing so, and I respect that.

Still.....every one that comes out makes it easier for someone else.

10. "Still.....every one that comes out makes it easier for someone else."
.
I stand on the shoulders of every one who came before me who had the courage to live their lives "out" when the consequences were much more dire.

I cannot let them down, nor can I let down those who will stand on my shoulders one day too. It is the very least I can do--to live my life honestly and with integrity and refuse to let the bigots define me.

9. It is an excellent film.
You're right!

And here's hoping that our children and our children's children grow up with much less bigotry and idiocy than we did. (Myself in particular).
