Seriously, Steph had to watch it for a class, so we rented it. I'd seen it way way way back right after it came out but not as an adult.

Either way it has loads of religious and political commentary in the songs. Plus the acting was pretty damned good. Even this Atheist could dig it.

What really amazes (Saddens) me is that 30 years ago a thoughtful, entertaining, "G" rated movie could be made about this issue and now about all we get is prolonged bloodbaths and Gibson mysticism...

How sad.

1. Well...I'm glad you liked it. But it's...Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Ick and ick. I despise him...he's the Phil Collins of American musical theater. Vapid, relentlessly dull composer who churns out the most utterly forgettable...crap.

I saw the movie years ago. Directed by Norman Jewison...a decent director. But...and this is just MY opinion...the music is hideously mediocre, to put it mildly.

2. Good thing for me I can appreciate the mediocre.
I love some of those tunes!

I have such bad taste... but at least I admit it. :P

6. Not a bit Lloyd Webber fan, but I loved JCS
The song that gets me every time I watch it is Gethsemane(sp?)

10. I'll use the same reply I always use...
whenever someone talks about how awful Andrew Lloyd Webber's music is.

"Okay, here's a piano, here's some staff paper. Show us how it's SUPPOSED to be done."

Big ALW fan here, by the way.

5. The soundtrack is the best -- Ian Gillan as Jesus
also Ian Paice on drums -- it is GREAT.

8. I've had the Broadway soundtrack for years
I recently got the movie on DVD and I was glad I did. I haven't seen it in years and really enjoyed watching it again.
The released a version last year because of the Gibson movie. In the commentary they talk about Gibson's movie.
I like the Broadway music better, but the movie and soundtrack is pretty good.

9. I used to sing a church gig with the guy who plays Caiaphas.
Bob Bingham. What a sweet guy with a deep voice. This was in NYC...and years after he had made that movie.
