School Pays $10,000 for Boy's Haircut
http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/news/story.jsp?idq=/ff/story/0001%2F20050317%2F0816437593.htm&sc=1120

WILSONVILLE, Ore. (AP) - Sally Miller might have been grateful if her 8-year-old son had come home from school with a nice-looking haircut. But when he showed up with ``next to nothing'' on his head, Miller threatened to sue.

The West Linn-Wilsonville School District recently agreed to pay Miller $10,000 because a school employee cut the boy's hair without permission.

<snip>

``There was one stinking day, and I'm not lying, that I didn't brush his hair,'' Miller said.

Superintendent Roger Woehl said Wednesday the employee was wrong to play barber. ``If someone needs a haircut, we'd be more than happy to go into our wallets to give them 20 bucks,'' he said.

< end >

Wonder if the "employee" was a freeper - with a grudge

4. And why does this 'employee' still have a job?
What the HELL would someone be thinking,
to decide to cut a child's hair without parental permission?
That's just BIZARRE!

I wouldn't want this person working around children.
Their judgement is FAR too poor!

5. How insulting!
I sure hope that employee got fired. That's $10,000 wasted, that could have gone to better use. That's extremely close to where I live, too. I'd like to find out that idiot's name, so I can yell at him/her in person.

And doesn't the superintendent WISH they had given the kid a $20 to get a real haircut....

6. A brush and a comb cost less than twenty dollars, too
Edited on Thu Mar-17-05 07:16 PM by rocknation
Nobody could buy him a comb and/or brush and tell him to do it himself?

7. Okay, an eight-year-old boy
How many parents feel that they can trust their 8-year-old son to bathe, let alone brush his hair nicely?

But yes, practically shaving his hair clean off still is not right . . . Right (with a capital R) maybe, but not right . . .

8. My 8 year old son styles his hair every morning
He even uses gel sometimes ! He will ask for a haicut, and get upset if it does not happen soon enough. My 10 year old daughter could care less about brushing her hair.

OMG!! My son may be a (gasp) METROSEXUAL !!!

12. What possessed the "employee?"
The only time I can even remotely see this as being anywhere near potentially justified is if the kid or the school were having a serious head-lice problem. Or the kid had gum in his hair. Lots and lots of gum. And even then, it's up to the school to notify the parents.

I wonder what set this "employee" off so badly about his haircut that s/he felt the need to shave the kid's head.

16. This happened in Louisiana recently..
I have a friend, his son attends a catholic school. Apparently the school principle got a little upset a couple of weeks ago and cut several teenage boys hair. Their hair was a little below the ears.

17. You'd think that 1950's Marine brush cut mentality would be dead today.
Guess not.

"Boy, we gonna cut awl that lawng hayair awff 'n' make ya look like a MAN!"

I wear my hair buzz-short 'cause I'm going bald and it looks better that way. But anybody ought to be able to wear their hair any old way they want. Free-est country in the world, my ass. :eyes:
