Names parents no longer use when naming their kids.
But, you wish they would.

Here's a few I like:

Cedric, Candace, Duncan, Edgar, Frances, Francis, Henry, Lucille, Nigel, Opal, Pearl, Xavier, etc.

What names do you like that are no longer being used?

:D

I love that name. We named our daughter Hannah Rose from an old tombstone that dated from the early 1800's. I guess we were not so original. Now there are a million Hannah's. LOL. She was going to be Grace Elizabeth as well. Violet was a strong third place with us. Violet Anne was the third runner up.

Old fashioned names are making a come back.
Emma is really popular right now. I've heard a couple Henrys recently, too.

My cat is named Nigel. Before we had kids my husband said he wanted to name a son that, but I vetoed it, so he named our cat. :)

I know several middle-aged people named Frances and Francis. I know a child in his teens named Duncan.
I think the names you listed will come into style again. I remember when I was younger I thought the names Emma, Emily, Ella, sounded terribly old-fashioned. They're now fairly common among babies today.
Thanks for reminding me of "Cedric" -- I think it's a great name.

About 4 million times from the repuke parents of the snot nosed brat that was running aound the waiting room at the car dealership the other day. He was coughing on everyone and wanted to go outside into the 20 degree weather with his 10 month pregnant mom while she smoked a cigarette. Dad, or whoever, told hom that there was poop all over the table when he set his cheesy poofs down. At one point, Dad told him "What am I going to do with you, you are no good!!!"

I couldn't wait to get out of there....

53. Lots of old fashioned names are coming back
Edited on Thu Mar-17-05 11:11 PM by Danmel
We know Mollys and Emmas and Pearls and there are lots of Henrys. We know a 14 year old girl named Sadie too. What you don't hear are the 50s and 60s names: Barbara, Carol, Debbie, Bonnie, Lisa. Now the kids are either Lindsay or Lilly, but not Lisa.

My kids are Emma Rose, Katie Anne, and Alex Robert. I have a second cousin named Leila Belle, another named Micah Shawn, and another named Ashley Maria.

I never hear names of my generation used for babies--Lori (me), Amy, Michele, Mary, Michael, Brian, etc.

I think some of those names are coming back.

I like Violet, Edith, Rosalind, Ivy, Arthur, Edmund, August, Aubrey. Not totally gone, but definitely less popular than they used to be and so have a kind of turn-of-the-last-century feel to them.

My econ teacher is naming his son Cade, because it's a Welsh name. He made the mistake of asking our class what we thought of it. Silly question. I think if he's going Welsh, it should be Owen.

119. The simple old standards
Aren't being used anymore:

John, Peter, James, Charles, even Michael is dying out. Jane, Margaret, Mary, Susan also. Now everyone has to be a Max or a Madison, a Kyler or a Skyler; an Apple, a Rumer, a Scout, etc. etc.

Absolute pukesville!

One of the nice things about the simple names like that is it that they don't seem to impose anything on the child. A Jane Margaret can be any kind of person she wants with those names. Some of the newfangled ones seem to typecast people.
