DALLAS — The Texas Attorney General's Office has obtained judgments against two brothers who operated a self-described university that gave an MBA to a cat named Colby.
Attorney General Greg Abbott said Thursday he obtained the judgments against Craig Barton Poe, 35, of Frisco, Texas, and Alton Scott Poe, 40, of St. Cloud, Fla. Authorities said they operated Trinity Southern University, a for-profit Dallas-based "university" that issued fraudulent degrees.
Alton Poe, who failed to respond to a lawsuit filed by the attorney general in December, was assessed a default judgment ordering him to pay a $100,000 penalty, plus more than $15,000 in state attorneys' fees, Abbott said.
Craig Poe agreed to pay a $10,000 upfront civil penalty for offering deceptive degree programs and will pay an additional $10,000 in several installments, Abbott said.
