What is the best way to crush ice?

Please - nothing that involves safety glasses, ammunition, or training manuals.

and go to work with a meat tenderizing hammer...or use a blender

you wouldn't be asking how to do it.

You can do it in a blender.

Or the towel method someone else posted, but that can take a while, and you get a lot of meltage.

You want something that will work fast, and not melt the ice so much.
