I'm going to be a Best Woman!!!!!
My good friend (best male friend) is getting remarried this coming September (if you read the cooking and baking group you may remember that I'm doing the wedding cake.) It's going to be a small ceremony (35 people) at a local B&B.

He asked me tonight if I would be his Best Woman (in lieu of having a Best Man.) I'm so flattered and thrilled - I've been a bridesmaid 5 dreary times but this is really cool.

I get to do the toast and everything. And he said I don't have to wear a tux but I think this is an excuse, uh reason to buy a killer dress, yes?

1. Super cool!
That really sounds like fun - you get to do the toast!

My best friend is a man -- if I ever get married he'll be Gentleman of Honor, I guess. And he won't have to wear a foofy pastel dress. :D

2. Good for you! That sounds great
It makes me abso-fucking-lutley nuts when people say that men and women can't be just friends. And when I say - "Yes they can - I know - I am!" And then they have the gall to tell me that I'm either mistaken or lying. What narrow little worlds some people live in!

3. Me too!
I've always had a lot of guy friends - and yes, they were "just" friends (that always seems kind of vaguely insulting to the intensity friendship can have, when you say "just friends").

One male friend of mine got married a few years ago and had a little freakout when he was putting together his bachelor party list, because he really wanted just his very closest friends there -- and except for him, the party turned out to be 100% women!

9. I bet he made a great husband
I think men who can be friends with women, especially close friends, have a more mature view of woman and tend to have better relationships.

When I met my husband I was wondering how I was going to explain my very close male friends (at that time there were two) and before I got a chance he asked me to meet his very best friend - a woman! I knew then it was fate.

4. You will love it!
I was best woman at my best friend's wedding.

I wore a strapless dress with a short tux jacket over it. I wore the same bow tie as the other guys but it looked like a choker with the strapless dress.

The jacket & tie made the pics look better because I matched the groom's men. I took the jacket off for the reception.

6. That's a great idea - thanks!
I have a sleeveless black silk sheath that I think will work. Since it's a second wedding he's not sure whether he'll be wearing a tux or not but I think I'll wear my black dress and a jacket for the ceremony.

I plan to - I'm so excited about the cake and I can work on my toast now, in my head, while I bake. :7

10. I had a Best Woman
My dear friend Lisa was my "Best Woman." She wore a black tux/dress thing that she found somewhere. She made a tear jerking speech and performed the job beautifully (other than a ring juggle when she passed the rings over to me during the ceremony).

12. When one of my cousins got married she had her brother stand in
as the "man-of-honor" as opposed to the maid. So I guess wedding traditions are flexible these days...

17. They are flexible
I think it's good thing. Friendships do not fall so rigidly along gender lines; why force the "roles' that way?

16. Wow! You either give great toasts, look great in a tux or
you're a great friend - or all of the above!

I'm guessing all - am I right?

14. Our best man was a Best Woman, too. She wore a dress just like
the one my sister (my matron of honor) wore. They decided when it was time to walk back down the aisle after the ceremony that they would not link arms!!!
