"Hey, man, that's groovy!"
Have you ever used the word "groovy" and meant it? What is the dumbest nonce-word (fad slang) you ever got hooked on? Have you ever said "Word!" or "Boss!" or anything like that without being ironic?

kind of tongue-in-cheek way; as in, the something I'm talking about really IS "groovy" but "groovy" isn't in my normal lexicon.

I was a teenager at the height of Val-speak. I am guilty of using words like "grody". I NEVER once said "gag me" or "gag me with a spoon", though, unless I was making fun of Val-speak.

My biggest sin was probably the gratuitous overuse of "totally."

edited typo.

3. "Far out, man". Or, farfuckingout man.
Oops, "my bad"-that's one I used once and didn't know what it meant, I thought it was taking responsibility for a mistake or something--I don't use "my bad" anymore.
:dunce:

9. I have to say, I still say "far out" once in a while
in a way that is just that side of ironic. My wife says it too and for some reason it always gives me this little frisson of je ne sais quoi, dig? :hippie:

4. My sister found a letter I wrote to her when she was in college in 1990
It's full of "hey homey!" and the like. :) I was 11.

6. I Only Used "Groovy" in Jest
although I did hear that the words dates back to the 1940s and was used (I believe) among jazz musicians.

As a child, I even remember a friend using the word "keen" in all seriousness.

The one that used to make me cringe was "fresh." Especially if it was in the form "stupid fresh."

8. It probably was legitimately groovy in 1945.
I think it was dated within a year of it's going mainstream in the mid-sixties.

11. Hey, man. Me and this groovy chick were in the back of my deuce..
...smoking some kick ass weed and groovin to some boss tunes, but then like, the fuzz came by and she wigged out and narced on me so I beat feet to this dude's house and chilled out until I copped wise to the dude being a flake, so I was like "Later, man" and went back to my old man's house until I could find some new cats to hang with.

13. Of course!
I love "groovy" and use it often. My coworkers think I'm a little "off."
