32. Perhaps the database table is locked while the thread is being updated

so that if a thread has a particularly active flamewar, it takes longer for the mod to lock it?

Or it could be that a mod has to read the whole thing before locking?

It would be good to know the mechanics of it, but not necessary. I agree that don't-feed-the-trolls is the best policy.

It's a tough job, too. We have some 67,000-odd opinions. I would never volunteer to mod this place. I'm afraid I would go on a power trip or something. :(

Truly, this board has the best moderation of any board I've seen. It can't be perfect because humans aren't perfect.

It's also been a good place to get a sense of perspective. I am one poster among thousands. It's been good for thickening my skin a bit and teaching me a bit about my place in the scheme of things. That's good for a small-town person like me. :)
