For all you DU MAC users
This video clip perfectly sums up my feelings about Macintosh "computers". :argh: :nuke:

I've always said that MACs are for people who don't want to learn how to use a real computer ! :P

3. Yawn
I seen at a least a dozen vids along that line regarding how sucky PC's are. The only difference is, those videos were much better quality, because they were made on Macs.

Otherwise, I agree with the other guy. Piss off.

5. Well, let's see
In addition to running my graphics and other software in a smoother, more reliable and user-friendly environment than Windows, I'm also running Apache webserver, PHP and MySQL on the Unix side and am able to develop applications locally that operate exactly as they do when I upload them to my BSDi webserver. And I don't have to download a new security patch every five minutes.

Seems like a real computer to me.

18. I grew up on VMS, DOS, then Windows
But when my wife, a senior system analyst, got a job at the Human Genome Center, we went over to Macs because that was what predominated at the lab (not a real computer?). Once I discovered that using a computer didn't have to feel like driving a Dodge Aries 'K' with bad leaf springs and a blown head gasket, I never went back (neither has my wife, now a senior staff person in an Ivy League computer science department).

I used to have the same "It's not really a computer" snobbery you express here. What an idiot I was.

7. Face it: every OS sucks
And no OS sucks more than Windows (I'm using Windows right now, so I should know). Expressing your feelings about a MAC - that's ok. However keep your feelings about Mac users for yourself.

yeah, ya got us one that one... meanwhile, rather than waste any time doing videos about how much I hate Windows, I'll get back to getting my job done (which I get paid very handsomely for)... on my Macintosh, (which, by the way, hasn't crashed in months despite running Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Soundtrack, Keynote, Director and a ton of 3rd party stuff simultaneously...) in easily in a quarter of the time it takes me to do the same thing on the idiot box... i mean, my windows machine...

19. Video clip?
Anyway, my Mac only crashes for two reasons -- one, i've missed a program logic error in one of my programs, or two, the Windows-based network flips out. I suspect a bit of power-envy here.

If this petty, arrogant and mean spirited post survives until I get home I will try to bring it up on my Mac to seewhat kind of misinformation you are spewing out in the normally friendly confines of the Lounge.

Macs are for people who don't have the time or inclination to fool around with a poor copycat substitute operating system and interface.

28. How disingenuous!
I the past week, I have seen two threads bashing Macs and Mac users! Funny, I don't recall ANY Mac users starting a thread for the sole purpose of bashing Windows users.

People are provoking OS wars here, and you're going to bash us for defending ourselves. We didn't bring it up, we are simply defending ourselves.

Frankly, I could give a sh*t about what operating system you use. Just leave me and my Mac alone. Thank you! :hi:

38. Sounds fine to me.
I have seen my share of PC-bashing threads on here, but usually it happens after someone posts a heads up on a security patch or virus. All the Mac users love to chime in how their machine is just impervious to all attacks, and please kindly disregard that no one out there is motivated to write viruses that attack Macs.

Yes, I agree, keep your OS to yourself! I've used Macs, I've used PCs with Windows. With all their frustrations, I'll take PCs any day. Just my personal preference.

Learned on a Mac. Been on a Mac for 15 years or so. They're the best. Finally PCs are getting closer to the ease of operation that Macs have always provided. And I like the comment about how Mac users never start these stupid taunting threads. Just like the way Mac users have better things to do with their time than create viruses.

30. Boy Oh Boy !
Listen to all the hit dogs yelpin' ! I would have to take exception to the poster who claimed that these attacks are always provoked by PC users.

In my experience its always the Mac users who are bashing Windows and telling us how unstable and clunky it is. But I will tell you guys this, like the guy in the video, I have never lost a file on a Windows based machine. On Macs I have been unable to save files, not given a choice of where to save files, and also saved files to a specific location, only to return later and find no trace of said file.

If this is what you guys call "ease of use" then you can have it !

31. Each side thinks
the other started it. :P

Here's some thoughts: getting snooty about your OS is kinda dorky. Engaging in flame wars about your OS is kinda dorky. Judging an OS that you've only used briefly and don't really have a thorough understanding of is kinda dumb. Could we accept that all OSes have their strengths and weaknesses when compared to other OSes, and maybe say none is "best" in a general sense? I guess that wouldn't be much fun ;)

The most important piece of data, of course, is the ability to
distinguish "Save" from "Save as..."

40. Another modicum of training
If you can't find a file, hit "command" (the key with the apple on it) and "F" at the same time, then when you get the command type in the name of the file you are looking for.

Or go to the Apple Menu and click on "Recent files" or "Recent items"

I did NOT say they were always provoked by PC users. I said in the past two weeks here they were started by Windows users. BIG difference.

And once again, YOU started the thread. Just who is bashing who here?!?!

I'm a dual platform user and I am equally adept at either platform. I simply prefer Macs. If you don't know how to operate the OS, could it possibly be the fault lies with the USER and not the OS.

Anyway, I'm going to work, so I'm done here. Have a nice day! :hi:

The main mistake folks make when comparing Windows and Macs is the fact that the 2 systems can vary in price so much.

As a computer repairman and Microsoft Certified Engineer and A+ tech
(and all the other bullshit) I can state that similar systems that cost the same have about the same weaknesses and Pluses....

I mean, if you buy a PC for 500-900 dollars from Best buy with an integrated motherboard (a motherboard that has "built-in" sound chips, video chips,win-modem), etc and expect to not have conflicts with stuff down the road, you're sadly, sadly mistaken...

On the other hand if you buy a PC that costs the equivalent of a good Mac, you'll wind up with a system that will "non-misbehave" about as much as a Mac does....(IF you don't download every damn file that is on the Kaaza server!)

Both "non-cheap" Macs and PC are fine computers that have their own weaknesses and strengths.

Most hassles I've seen from PC's are folks that have burdened their machine with TONS of software that was written by a programmer that is more concerned with selling his/her software than writing good code.

In short, I like both Macs and PC's but for different reasons...

39. I will have to agree
Edited on Wed Oct-15-03 10:11 AM by tarheel
with you on that point Radicalliberal. I have only owned one "store bought" PC. It was a Packard Bell and it was a piece of s**t ! Since then I have built two of my own PCs component by component. One running WIN95 and the other running WINXPpro. Both of these systems are much more stable than the ones friends and colleagues have purchased with the bundled software and integrated proprietary components.

I will admit that I have not spent much time trying to acclimate myself to Macs, but that is because when my company first started issuing laptops to their field personel, I was in the field and those things were junk and I decided then and there that they weren't worth the time and effort to try and understand.

P.S (If I want to try and read somethings mind and adapt my use to its mood, I will doit with my wife thank you :P <sarcasm off>)
