Wow - I was just attacked with the supposition that i was a bushie
*snicker*... for real. I was attacked - and missed it.

Only make this point because I try very hard to be very diplomatic, even handed in my posting - so I don't get attacked often, I don't get threads locked and it has been eons since i have had a post deleted (maybe back to the time when the real strict rules were in effect during the primaries)... and am not typically referred to as a freeper type.

Serves me right for spending too much time in the two GD forums today, I guess.

I found it funny - probably doesn't mean much to many here - but I thought a few other folks might find it kind of funny as well.

If youre getting attacked like this, I say its a sign to stay out of GD.

20. for several months (due to short posting time)
I have used those forums mainly to do a quick read of the topics to give me an "up to the minute sense" of issues or events that have gotten folks attention. I should have stayed at that "informational" level ;-)

8. hate to do that directly
and the reference starts with one post to one of mine... which includes a YOU sort of reference - followed by a second response to the same post that starts talking of "smelling..." now that one refers to the fora in general.. but along with the first one.

A hint - gd politics.. locked around 8:45 - title something about bush supporters. ;-)

36. Ya - isn't that odd feeling when that happens...
like everyone in the forum stands around and spectates (is that a word) and watches a few moths to the flames while waiting for the whole spectacle to get wiped away.

Being both a serious news/policy poster - and a light - pass the time with firends lounge lizzard, it is always a bit odd to see the two merge with that "bleed"/"Leak" from GD.

Guess i sorta did that with this - but am trying to keep issue out - but the point of heated emotions - leading to rather funny over the top smears that can happen 'over there'.

It's just really heated
People are frustrated, there's been a lot of disruption and new people who don't know the ropes/rules yet. Lots of people assuming things, and not taking stuff with a grain of salt, or making any attempt at diplomatic discussion of difficult topics. Ya know, the usual :) And, welcome to DU :)

14. Periodic infiltrators by folks trying to stir us up
that is - direct attempts to disrupt.. followed by a gazillion threads on Shavio - some very impassioned on both sides ... inflamed by the Congressional actions which blurs the intent of those who might have some lingering questions, doubts on the specific case given the power attempt by the repubs in congress and bush... as such - even defending folks gently can lead to a bit of an over reaction.

In all honestly - it often gets that over heated in the GD forums. DIfferent issues - whenever emotions rise - it gets real hot in there, real prone to over reactions.

all I could think was whoa that was an over reaction/response.. then with the second post.. hey this dude/dudette just called me a bushie - and I roared with laughter. Thanks for validating that what I said read to be fairly even handed rather than emotive/instigating as in raising the pitch to perhaps warrant the "attack."

28. You were fine.
I just can't see any issue from here on out not setting all of us on edge. Some issues will get some of us to be really crazy and others not but I simply can't see it getting better. I think everything is getting worse and everyone is freaking about something. Time to don the flame retardant suits every day.

At least you laughed! I takes enormous restraint sometimes not to fan those flames doesn't it?

33. heh I had time on my hand
I didn't see it until after it was locked. Two choices get aggravated for the night (and tempted to post a follow up thread - which really isn't my style) - or laugh at the irony. I like to think I have been consistently anti bush - and that my efforts to analyze news items tie them together for bigger pictures on rw policy pushes have been helpful (or so my egos)so I choose to laugh. But then again this thread lets me vent - not anger - but at least share in the bit of emotion that along with humour - says - yikes emotions are running so high that even this happens.

I think your assessment as to why emotions are so high is so on the mark. There are days, as I drive to work - having read the news for an hour or so before leaving - that I have to turn off NPR -as my state of mind gets angrier and angrier - not a good way to start a workday off.

Sometimes the restraint needed is unsummonable. Fortunately not tonight...

43. I have to tell you this
because I think you will laugh and since the giggles have already hit you, well here goes. I can't even listen to NPR anymore, don't watch any news on TV and just about wreck my truck going for the dials if news comes on. I know it will just piss me off so...I am now listening to Musica Mexicana. No English. I understand a little tiny bit of what they are talking about and am trying to learn more as I go but the music is fine and there is NO CHANCE I will ever hear any news.

I used to get so angry during the primaries that I think I could feel my blood pressure go up. I refuse to ever let that happen again. It makes a person miserable but it has helped me to understand some of what I see in GDP. You took it well you little Bush** supporter you. :hi:

51. Oh my goodness....
I still listen to some NPR (it plays in the other room - its my alarm clock - as I read lbn real early in the morning), but when I get into the car - I almost always turn off the news. Sometimes listen to talk of the nation if I am running errands for work. Not much else. Haven't watched the news since the elections - tho occaisionally turn on Cspan. Didn't do it intentionally - or even think about it - until you posted this, and I realized - hey I do that too!

Thanks, not so much for giggles, for getting me to reflect on something I have done unintentionally (or that is - not thinking about doing it - but probably intentional just didn't realize it).

And yes - I think it is a good explanation for what sometimes boils up in the GDs.

Have I told you recently (or ever - since I don't do it often) that I appreciate you here?!

34. That is what I saw.. there is still some value
in hanging out and boosting each others sense of concern and awareness - and fun. Maybe that is a bigger thing in a place like Indiana (have I said recently how much I miss living in California??!) - where the last two monthly meetups (small but cool) have had a great effect on the despondancy factor.

40. I did DC and have family in Philly,
not quite NE but enough that time spent there is very appreciated. Have returned to where I grew up and sometimes feel like I am in a foreign land - but I have lived here in a bubble - grew up and returned to a liberal (relatively speaking) community - and moved to the "big city" - but in urban work that places me in the middle of a bunch of liberals. But I savor the five years I spent in the Sf Bay area - really great place (but very expensive) area to live.

47. yep. I lived in the bay area twice.
Once on a ship stationed out of ALameda, and once on a barracks in Treasure Island (then I moved into a studio on Polk and O"Farrell on the edge of the tenderloin :scared:) I lived in Long Beach and San Diego also.

55. hehe you may have one up on me
per the tenderloin... I lived for four years in East Palo Alto - just after it was the murder capital (per capita) of the country. A murder across the street, down the street, and the bulding across the street wrapped up like a present in six foot tall link fence after it was shut down as a crack house... but the tenderloin (depending upon where) might make my war stories seem tame ... but - it is what let me get through grad school with little debt (cheapest place to live in the area...)

Alameda is pretty. Didn't know one could live on treasure island. Was that isolating? Limited access on and off - but in the middle of millions of people (in the early nineties there were reportedly 11 million in the bay area.)

Don't know much about Long Beach (spent a day there - seemed nice) or San Diego (hear it is among the nicest climates in the country)

Am trying to think of something nice of this region... well - in Indiana we have all four seasons... and in southern Indiana we have rolling hills (pre-mountains) - not enough for good skiing - but very scenic. Also a real sense of community in most places - one that overcomes politics (eg even tho this is a red state - in most places I have spent time in - it is meaningless in terms of relationships.)

Some folks get so caught up into making their point that they become, in posting terms, nearly unhinged - even when responding to noninflamatory posts. Quite an interesting phenom - and a reason to make the GDs (this was GD Politics) visits shorter rather than longer.

but given the rest of the thread (not many attacks) I rather suspect that someone alerted on my behalf - before I responded (which I would have) and prolonged what would have become a flame war (though I would have strived to be diplomatic in my flaming ;-) ).

Much other discussion has been crowded out of the GDs - which is too bad - there are a heck of a lot of other important issues to be covered/discussed.

67. is the second one
(legally blonde) as amusing? She was also entertaining in... dang what was the title... election? the flick with Matthew Broderick where she is an obsessive teacher pleasing (really) student shooting for class president.

70. lol
dang - faux mole cover blown.

Actually had a funny exchange with Johnny Blitz about trying to be a fake mole and folks not only not believing it -but being dismissive because it was so absurd. That conversation was only a couple of days ago - making this even funnier (esp your post!) :toast:

74. Have to have a sense of humour
about these flames.... lazy thinking was certtainly a part of the attack; or if not lazy thinking - perhaps emotional thinking (ironic given charges of emotional thinking) leading to rigid thinking and responses.
