Tom Delay offers senior staff position to Terry Schaivo

Washington, D.C. - In a surprising turn of events Tom Delay has offered to hire Terry Schaivo and join his re-election campaign staff. "From everything I've seen Terry is a thinking and feeling person, she would be an excellent addition to my staff", Delay was quoted as saying. When asked what specific job duties Ms. Schaivo would be expected to perform in light of her vegetative state, Delay responded "I'm not asking her to write my speeches or anything. She would basically need to accompany me to my ethics hearings, and campaign with me". He added "If she wants us to make a promotional bobble head doll for her as a campaign promotion, well that would be up to her".

With a looming indictment for violation of Texas campaign finance laws, Delay is gearing up for a 2006 push to increase Republican control of the House. The proposal to Schaivo is seen by many as a blatant attempt to appeal to the conservative base by creating a wedge issue for the '06 campaign. By bringing her on board, Delay would be able to wheel Ms. Schaivo out at fundraising events and get-out-the-vote rallies. Inside sources say that there are even plans for a country wide caravan tour with Ms. Schaivo strapped to the roof of Mr. Delay's bus. This rumor has not yet been independently verified, though it has not been denied either.
