Poll question: At What age Did you Lose a Sibling?
Edited on Mon Mar-21-05 10:43 AM by Champ
I was about 11 months old(12 days before my first birthday) when I lost my older brother and sister in a car accident which me, mom, and dad survived. I've been told it was a miracle I even made it, I have many scars but no mental or brain damange or any physical handicaps. The thing that gets me the most is I don't even have a memory of them. I didn't even know they ever existed till I was about 7 when my dad told me about it.

RIP Bobby & Heather

2. My twin "miscarried" at 7 months
My mother told me about it when I was very young and it always makes my birthdays a little sad.

3. All my siblings are alive
But I did lose my dad at the age of 2. I don't have any memory of him whatsoever. But my brother at the time was 6 and so clearly has fond memories of my dad as does of course my mother.

5. I don't know if this counts
When I was 16 my mother gave birth to twins. One lived a few minutes and the other lived about 2 hours.

11. Sorry for your loss as well
I often wonder what my brother would have become. He died February 19, 1980. He had been fighting the disease for, I think about 18 months. He loved trains, sports and music. He used to talk about becoming a bush pilot in Alaska. He only lived long enough to get his driver's license though. He put up one hell of a fight.

7. My brother
passed away at age 31 after a ten-month battle with leukemia on New Years' Day 1990. I was 26 at the time. The world lost a versatile musician, talented composer and notorious wag. RIP, Charles.

But after seeing what you posted for your sibling I felt it was necessary to do the same.

15. I was 37 when my sister died
the day after her 39th birthday.

My brother died when I was 44. He was 52.

My Mom's first child was stillborn and her second was born prematurely and only lived 15 minutes. There is a gravesite for the 2nd baby, a little girl.

16. My brother died of an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound...
...when I was seven. He was 15 and had been squirrel hunting on our grandpa's farm. He set the gun down leaning against a gate as he was climbing over it, the gun was jiggled or knocked over, and discharged through his head. That was one of the most horrible times of my life, he was my favorite and always looked after me. Almost exactly a year later, my mother was killed in a car wreck, hit by a drunk driver. I believe these were the two most formative events of my life.

17. My brother died when I was 26
He was 33 and died of a self-infliced gunshot wound to the head. It's been 13 years and I still miss and think of him every day. He was my best friend.
