The Daily Show's Steve Carell in the American version of the Office
Edited on Mon Mar-21-05 03:16 PM by Melodybe
I am actually looking forward to this, when I first heard that they were going to try an American version, I was quite unhappy.

Then I found out that Steve Carell is the boss, and my love of casting overwhelmed me and I was happy again.

It looks great, it premieres March 29th.

1. What's scary is I used to HAVE a boss who looked like Steve Carell!
And he acted just like the boss from The Office, too.

2. I just received both seasons of The Office, plus the special...
...for my birthday. I'd seen the first four episodes when broacast on Showcase Television up here (that's where they stopped running it), but I just watched the whole first season of six yesterday and will likely watch the second season tonight. What I've seen so far is brilliant and cannot be improved upon.

Unless the US producers find a way to improve upon the British series, there is absolutely no conceivable reason in the entire universe why this should be made, even with Steve Carell; it will be what is known as a "Why" show. I'll watch it Tuesday next, but it had better be superior to Ricky Gervais's original or I'll be tuning back out.

3. Ii'm not too impressed by the ads I've seen. I don't think Carell
will be able to capture the same magic that Ricky Gervais did. What was so great about his character was that he played it totally low-key. He was annoying and obnoxious because he was a self-important moron, who had absolutely no clue how totally unhip he was, not because he was a loud obnoxious jerk. I have a feeling Carell will play the character as a loud obnoxious jerk, and that it will make the show very unpleasant to watch.

4. I hope not, Carell is a talented guy, I'll watch it then decide
I hate all things GE/NBC so I am weary, but since I like the brit version and Carell, I'll give it a shot.

5. I'm skeptical about it but I'll tune in Thursday out of curiosity
After NBC's shitty version of Coupling, I'm not so sure.

6. Carell just flat out makes me crack up
He didn't really have that many lines in "Anchorman" but I bust out laughing on almost everyone. The hand grenade was just too much.

I can't wait.
