One of those can entertain me for HOURS.

Back when I was working corporate gigs and they busted us for playing Buzzword Bingo, I swear it was hangnails alone that kept me sane through some of those interminable staff meetings!

12. The rules are simple
You keep picking at the hangnail so as to cause pain.

This helps you not to feel the creeping numbness that inevitably sets in during the course of a corporate meeting.

The equation is as follows:
"Length of Meeting" : "Increasing Zombification"
(Where ":" means "in direct proportion to")

People who lack such distractions either fall asleep, have their heads explode, or they give over to the collective and become assimilated.

If you make the hangnail bleed, you've gone too far and you lose.

I've been doing that for years, informally. Now I wonder if I can enter the State Championships! I've certainly gotten enough practice in my Marketing meetings.

It certainly works better than trying to recreate scenes from the movie "Scanners" or "Firestarter."

...during meetings, however that was often misinterpreted as extreme interest in the item being discussed.

My various 'Firestarter' re-enactments merely got me in trouble for setting the meeting agendas and PowerPoint slides on fire.

Plus a number of mandatory visits to the company shrink. I mean, who would have guessed that transparencies would give off so much smoke? I mean, really, they oughta put warning labels on those thingies.

You can bet as soon as it is, I'll be all over the place trying to get publicity for my epic fantasy.

As it stands now, the manuscript is complete and it's in the polish & edit phase... and meanwhile, I'm trying to find an agent, editor, or publisher.

I'm making a commitment to my readers: Every volume in the series will have a real beginning, middle, and end. And the series will NOT go beyond five volumes. (Which isn't to say I might not be persuaded to go back and do another series... it would just need to be completely separate from what I have outlined so far.)
