1. don't forget your toothbrush
where in Europe are you going? For vacation or business?? I know what you mean about being a wreck. I love to travel, but I always get stressed out a few days before flying. Very odd.

5. Make copies of your passport and other documents
Edited on Mon Mar-21-05 06:58 PM by CottonBear
and leave one copy at home and put another in your luggage. Also, take a little fold up umbrella for protection against spring showers.
Have fun! I wish I could go to Europe. My friends are off to London for a 2 week honeymoon. Their plane is taking off from Atlanta in 3 minutes!

7. bon voyage! We backpacked through many cities two years
ago in 20 days: London, Paris, Interlocken, Nice, Venice, Rome, and what-is=the-name where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake....cool architecture there...like walking into the 15th century.. Sacre Couer in Paris is one place I would definitely return.

But we went during the worst heat wave ever in Europe...the 110 degrees in Paris that killed thousands...Venice was worse, with the humidity...still, it was wonderful.

Have a great trip and bring back pics for us!

71. Probably before the 2004 election they didn't hate us, they were more
bewildered as to how we could allow Bush to mislead us, and were probably sure we'd vote him out of office. But with giving the putz another four years, I'm sure their reactions and feelings toward us are hardening.

78. that's what my friend in italy says
he can't BELIEVE 'we' are SO brainwashed that 'we' voted him in again. i tell him that 'we' didn't, and proceed to go on about election fraud, etc.

then again, he feels the same way about the italians and berlusconi.

i also saw bush's trip to europe as not a peace keeping or making trip, but it seemed to affirm the negativity the world feels about him. it's a scary position these days, to be an american!

81. Yeah, it's not like he got voted in either time...and berlusconi is pretty
corrupt, also.

In Eastern Europe where I'll be spending most of my time, people there are much less anti-American. I think it's a left-over from Communism--after all, they've only been free for about 15 years, and they have no love for Russia, so they still look to us for guidnace. That, of course, will change also!

61. "I didn't vote for him" t-shirt. Also, if you like to read paperbacks in
English -- bring one with you.
They are tres expensive.
I used to trade with people on trains. I love to read on trains. And I've met some terrific people on trains.
I swapped novels with a chef once.

Also, if you are taking any guide books -- to save space -- cut out the pages you want and don't take the entire book(s).

Oh, and for addresses -- don't take your address book. Print out a sheet of labels and since it's flat, it will pack tres easy. Then slap 'em on postcards...and as we say in France.... et VOILA... or is that VI - O - LA?

HAVE FUN!
I'm going in July.
Got admitted to a Women's Writing Retreat. They only take 20 women...and I - GOT - IN! Whooopppeee.

so... have fun.

80. Sounds great! I wish we Americans were more like the British in that
they seem to have a respect for the language--we really don't.

I mean, suppose you forget your best suit? "Geez, stranded in Paris without my best suit... YEEHAA! PULL OUT THE MONEY GUN AND BLAZE AWAY!"

Not that I'd want to give you ideas or anything. }( Bon Voyage!

70. Prague is a great town
amd I wish you fun in the other towns also. It is so much easier now to travel within the EU. Same money (most of them), no controls on the border. It really made things easier.

95. Check the wheels on your suitcase
Seriously!!

I had just bought a new suitcase and I was leaving my home to put the suitcase in the trunk - and a wheel broke off of it. I had 10 minutes to repack everything into smaller suitcases.

Just test the suitcase out a bit to make sure those wheels are on tight and not cracked anywhere!!
