Human Finger Found In Fast Food Chili
Health Officials Confirm Finding Was Not Hoax

POSTED: 4:29 pm PST March 23, 2005
UPDATED: 6:29 pm PST March 23, 2005

There was a disturbing find in a bowl of chili at a fast food restaurant in the South Bay.

Health officials have confirmed that the tip of a human finger was found in some chili at a San Jose, Calif., Wendy's restaurant.

Health officials say this is definitely a first for them. They have confirmed this was not a hoax and that a human finger was indeed found in a bowl of chili, television station KNTV in San Francisco reported.

A customer on Tuesday night eating at the Wendy's found the tip of a finger in their food.

Woman bites into finger at San Jose restaurant
Maria Alicia Gaura, Chronicle Staff Writer

Wednesday, March 23, 2005

A diner bit into a segment of human finger while digging into a bowl of chili at a San Jose Wendy's restaurant Tuesday night, Santa Clara County health officials said today.

The woman, who asked officials not to name or even describe her, spit out the well-cooked digit and reportedly warned other diners to stop eating. She then became sick to her stomach.

Santa Clara County Health Officer Dr. Martin Fenstersheib said today the woman was horrified "due to the unpleasant sensation of having this (object) in her mouth."

But he said the finger had been cooked at a high enough temperature to kill any viruses, including hepatitis or HIV, and it was unlikely that she will suffer any health effects from her experience, aside from psychological trauma.

Guess crap like that happens with the quality of employees at fast food places, yet another reason why not to eat there.

10. Somehow, I knew it was Wendy's
They have re-begun the downward slide. The food has really gotten bad again. (Not that it was ever stellar, but they did have standards once.) Dave Thomas came back for a while and halted the downward slide, but I knew it was just a matter of time...

15. Wendy's Chili is made out of the left-over hamburger patties..
from the day before which have been overcooked or fallen apart and can't be served as patties (or at least it was when I worked there in the early 80's.) That means that the fingertip possibly could have been in the ground beef as early as when the cow was processed, but it also means someone in the Wendy's store had a chance to spot it before it ended up in the chili!
