Poll question: Who has your vote for the next West Wing president?
Personally, I think it will be Alan Alda. I like him and they are setting him up to be a very moderate Republican to UNIFY the country....and you

3. One of the reasons WW was renewed is because the cost
of the show will be going way down. Most of the regular cast members will be gone.

I read an article that said Martin Sheen will be on occasionally.

I'm pretty sure that CJ will be gone. If Smits wins Josh will be the new chief of staff. And maybe Donna will have to come back begging for a job.

I did read a poll somewhere that said that Smits was winning against Alda in a Nat'l poll. But I can't remember where I read it at.

7. Of course Smits is winning
Republicans don't watch the show. Even in our poll the country is closely divided. Alda is NOW a Academy Award nominee. Smits is not strong enough to carry the show, it would get cancelled IMO....I still like Alda much better.

12. Alda is such a liberal
Of course I do want him to win, and I agree with the Alda/Smit ticket. I just don't know if the West Wing will have enough money to pay Alda.

And unfortunately Ann Coulter was right about one thing. The WW is liberal porn. I just don't see how a Rep POTUS, even if it was Alan Alda could keep the viewers.

And if Santos picks Bingo Bob as VP, I'm done...lol.

13. I've read
that the show has a strong Republican following. Something like 35-40% of viewers. I think I read this on IMDB or maybe the show's website.

Ironic, huh?

16. That's how screwed up the country is.....
These 35% are our DEMS that keep voting for the * because they are drinking kool-aid.

2. Other
I see Alan alda and Jimmy Smits running together. Alda is getting slammed because he won't change his position on abortion. He and smits sat down together one day on the campaign trail and seemed to hit it off pretty well.

10. That's where my money is...
Sure looks like they're setting it up that way. Alda's character is too moderate for the wingnuts, not a religious man. I'm thinking Bingo Bob will get the Dem nomination, leaving Santos to run on a bipartisan ticket.

An uberconservative third party candidate wouldn't surprise me either.

4. I like Alan Alda, but voted Smits (Santos)
because I'd never vote for a Repub, even a moderate one. Santos is a great populist Dem.

6. I'd rather see a Dem unify the country...
Yeah that's wishful thinking. I like Alan Alda, but damn, I don't think I could even vote for a fictional Republican

8. Between Smits and Alda,
it really doesn't matter, but with Smits, I'd have a better chance of seeing recurring appearances of the Bartlet administration cast, and I don't want to let them go quite yet. :)

9. Hoynes!
I loved the morally ambigious Vice President from the first four seasons. Russell never came close to being as interesting of a Vice President.

Between Alda and Smits, I'd have to go with Smits, although Alda has the much more interesting character. Still, with Smits, we can still see people from the Bartlet Administration make appearances.

15. At first, I was convinced Jimmy Smits was the guy. After seeing
tonight's episode, I think Alan Alda might be their choice. His character Senator Vinick really is moderate, and that's the kind of unpredictable twist that they might do. You never know.

17. If only all Republicans were like the Vinick character....
<sigh>

Truth is, someone like him would never get past the primaries. Not enough fag-hating anti-abortion Godliness to succeed in today's America.

18. Sorry about this.
Even after all these months I have no idea how to start a thread on DU, and I just had to brag about my daughter, so I picked a Lounge thread at random to add this news to:

Do you remember when everyone was so amazed at how brilliant John Kerry’s daughter Vanessa must be to win a Fulbright Fellowship to do research in England when she was a second-year medical student at Stanford University?

Well, my little daughter, who is a second-year med student at Georgetown, just won a Fulbright Fellowship to do a year of research in Ireland! In the letter she got today telling her she had won the fellowship, it said that of those who have won Fulbright’s to Ireland, 35 of them are Nobel Prize winners! These Fulbright’s really do go to the crème de la crème.

BTW, if anyone wants to send me a message about how to start a thread, I'd be happy to have that information.

20. If you look up at the little icons at the top of the page
There's one that says "Post." Use it to start a new message in the lounge or wherever.

Congrats to your daughter! How awesome! :toast:

I will go and post my bragging thread right now. I could just about bust.

And the reason I knew about Fulbrights for med students is that I read about Vanessa's on Smirking Chimp and DU. If it were not for that, I wouldn't have put that bee in her bonnet and she never would have known to apply while she was still eligible.
