Let's talk about bread
Forget Atkins. He croaked anyway. Who here can't live without bread?
What is your favorite bread?

I like French, ciabatta, focaccia and Cuban bread.

I dip it in olive oil, balsamic vinegar and black pepper.

Other times I split a French loaf, drizzle some olive oil and melted butter on the inside, add some fresh garlic and parsley, and then sprinkle grated Mozzarella cheese on top before putting it in the oven.

Sometimes I add roma tomatoes to the above and then some black pepper for added flavor.

It's the best.

And that is just the appetizer.

2. One of my favorite recipes is Bread Salad
from the Zuni Cafe cookbook. I use French country bread -- pan de campagne -- and it's wonderful.

3. My brother makes wonderful Italian bread and pizza dough
I love his breads. I make bread in the bread machine 'cause I'm lazy. I have this little bread machine called "Just for Dinner" - it's made by Hamilton Beach. It makes a lovely small loaf of bread perfect for 2-4 people with no leftovers. I use the Gold Medal bread flour which has little specks of wheat germ in it and makes a delicious bread, though not as good as my brother's.

I used to make a bread from a New York Times health writer Jane Brody called Richard's Best Bread. This one recipe could be used for any type of bread, you changed the type of flour, sweetener and occasionally the rising time. This made an excellent half/half bread (half white flour, half whole wheat) which I sweetened with honey.

4. Mmmmmmmmm....Sourdough Rye
Or sourdough French.

Or Tuscan Peasant Bread. Something with a good chewy crust and tender insides. Bruschetta made with it is awesome.

Yum!

But it's the smell of bread baking in my oven that's the best. :)

5. I like really good wheat bread
For peanut butter and honey sandwiches, or for my favorite turkey with sprouts, onions, and mayo mixed with horseradish.

Or braunschweiger with sprouts, onions and mayo. I only add horseradish to that one if I am having weird monthly cravings.
