Kent Cat Caught In Illegal Trap

KENT - They trap with deadly efficiency, are strong enough to break bones, and they've been illegal for four years.

But someone set a steel trap near Kent, catching a neighborhood cat in its jaws.

A 2-year-old tortoiseshell named Princess was the unlucky victim. She's one of several stray cats Linda Oberst cares for as she tries to find them homes.

But last Tuesday morning, Princess crawled out of a greenbelt, and dragged herself up onto Oberst's front porch, she was hauling a heavy steel trap clamped on her right front paw, nearly amputating it.

"She was in shock I think, she was just laying very calm," says Oberst. "It was eerie, it was really eerie."
