Chocolate Crosses Annoy Catholic Diocese
<snip>

A symbol of Christianity that sits atop church steeples, dangles from necks and hangs on walls is finding a new home -- in the mouths of the faithful. In addition to its usual chocolate Easter bunnies, candy maker Russell Stover is also offering milk chocolate crosses this year. The nation's third-largest candy maker is selling the six-inch crosses under its Pangburn's brand in thousands of stores, with a focus on the Hispanic market. The chocolate cross is adorned with a floral bouquet and filled with caramel made of goat's milk -- popular in Latin America. Its packaging features Spanish more prominently than English. A spokesman for the Roman Catholic diocese of Bridgeport, Connecticut, finds the new product insulting. He says, "The cross should be venerated, not eaten." Easter is the second-biggest holiday for candy producers, behind Halloween.

2. Is this new in that area? We've had them here forever.
Doesn't seem to be a big issue here. :shrug:

3. Yum. I'll bet the caramel filling is tasty.
It sounds like a cultural difference between more colorful Latin American traditions & the "if we act dignified maybe they'll think we're Episcopalian" Diocese of Bridgeport, Connecticut. The Archdiocese of Houston/Galveston has ethnic offices to serve this diverse area. The Bridgeport Diocese appears to emphasize political action more than diversity:

Maybe Russell Stover will also begin making candy skulls for the Day of the Dead.

4. "Catholic Diocese Annoys Clinton Tyree"
No one knows that there WAS an actual "cross" that jebus was nailed to. Why don't we outlaw......wood. The "cross" was definitely made from wood, correct? It's the damn wood that's the culprit here, not the manner in which it was constructed. The Catholic Diocese is barking up the wrong tree here,(nyuk, nyuk) it's WOOD they should be trying to abolish!

And this DOES annoy me!

7. I Saw Those Yesterday
And thought they were in incredibly poor taste. But then again, I find the entire idea of celebrating the day that a man was executed is in incredibly poor taste, and I find the idea of worshipping the instrument of that man's execution to be in incredibly poor taste. Furthermore, I find the Catholic Church's use of said dead man on said instrument of execution as their primary religious symbol to be in incredibly poor taste.

But that's just me.

9. I always wondered
What would be the general reaction of people if I twisted balloons into the shape of a crucifix. Every now and then I get a request for a cross, which is easy, but adding a little figure attached to it would at least afford a challenge.
