1. Take all the keys off
And take it apart as much as possible, clean all the parts, let them dry, and put it back together. Pain in the neck, but might save it. Otherwise, keyboards are pretty cheap, as long as it's not a laptop. I spilled wine on my laptop, and there are now 6 keys that just don't work, at all. Meh. Good luck!

4. I spilled water on one of my laptops.... now the left shift-key doesn't
work, I guess I should feel lucky I have another one, but I found out that I never use the right one. I do now... pffft.

Good suggestion on the keyboard though, as long as it's not a laptop. Well, even it if is. I took out my pcmcia card I had in the slot, and turned the laptop on its side, and more water spilled out, even after I had taken the keys off and dumped it upside down.

I don't keep liquids anywhere near them now.

6. I wouldn't recommend this
there is nothing harder to put back together than a keyboard- I tried it once and I will never bother with it again because its pretty hard to get all the keys working and its a big hassle.

Bite the bullet and buy a new one.

8. After taking many keyboards apart...
I've found the best part is when you lose one or two of those tiny screws.

Almost as much fun as trying to remember where the tilde key goes, or balancing over 100 of those teensy springs or rubber caps while putting it together, and finding out after it's put back together that one was cockeyed.

Years ago, we ran them through the dishwasher and that usually worked.

2. 7 dollars will get you a new one. That's what I did when mine died an
untimely, coffee induced death. :hi:

3. just did that last month. tried a $10 Micros keyboard..POS. Now
it is sitting on the floor. The QWERTY section won't work more than half the time.
Ended up with a Microsoft keyboard. I think it was $20.

5. At work, I have an ergonomic optical mouse/keyboard
I got it at Costco and there was a rebate. I highly recommend this type of keyboard.

I ruined my home laptop keyboard with coffee. Lynz is right-you can take it apart and clean it, but it's tedious.

9. Take it outside, hose down the shit out of it
leave it to dry in the sun for a couple hours. It'll be fine.

10. I second that. I have saved several keyboards that way.
This keyboard (Apple Pro) has had tea and ginger ale spilled in it. The quicker you soak it down the better. You don't want the sugars and acids to affect the circuitry.

I put a fan by the keyboard to speed the drying.

11. Keyboard Issue Resolved....For Now.
Many thanks to all who offered expert advise. I unplugged the keyboard, removed random keys and dried and wiped residual coffee away. I switched keyboards with another desk. I feel much better. At least until Monday!
