Soon to be invaded by doctoral students
My boss told them to hand their homework into me by noon.

Any advice?

1. Start drinking now
by the time they arrive you'll be calm, sedate and prepared! :toast:

2. Stick a sign on the door that says back in 30 minutes and lock the door
Then go somewhere and watch their faces as they freak out about turning in their papers late.

3. Yes...some advice
go to the office supply store and have them make you a rubber stamp with the word "BULLSHIT" on it and also buy a pad of red ink.....

Looking over papers of Doctoral Candidates, you may find the stamp very, very handy.

(note: My major professor had one and used it liberally in blue books)

5. Thanks for asking
Had a long talk w/ the boy's teacher, and then w/ the boy, and then w/ the girlfriend's parents

I think things will now head in the right direction.

The boy and his girlfriend are not allowed to be together unless an adult is present. I will happily pick up the girlfriend on my way home from work so that she can spend some time at the house w/ him when I'm there.

When the boy comes home from school, his first priority is homework. His second priority is to find a job.

He admits to being VERY depressed (to the point where he has considered hurting himself) so we are both looking into getting him some professional help. He has to go to his mother's and get a health insurance card.

I've also suggested that this young man invite some of his buddies over from time to time. Seems since he started seeing the girlfriend, he never sees his buddies anymore.

He needs to focus on things that will build his self-esteem (grades and job) and on things that bring him joy (family and friends).

We're going to push him on the grades and job, and encourage him to take part in family events and getting some time in with his friends.

8. Put a chunk of opium, about the size of the first knuckle of your pinkie
In a pipe. Smoke completely. Don't drive home, walk or use public transport.
