Poll question: Favorite 10,000 Maniacs song
I'm going with the 'old' 10K Maniacs here, when Natalie Merchant was still with them. I remember seeing them in an alternative bar in Nebraska in 1985. There were about 5 people in the crowd, and I was standing about a foot away from Natalie Merchant, and was blown away by her voice, and by the talent of every musician in the band.

Soooo... since we've been focusing on bands that make you go Ugh today, I thought I'd toss out a really spectacular group. ;-)

4. Our Time in Eden

We are the roses in the garden,
beauty with thorns among our leaves.
To pick a rose you ask your hands to bleed.

What is the reason for having roses,
when your blood is shed carelessly?
It must be for something more than vanity...

18. Don't Talk on their In My Tribe album is my favorite 10K Maniacs song
I like Natalie's solo work a lot though. I'd have to say for her solo stuff, I have two favorites, Jealousy and The Letter.

20. indeed... Merchant has done some solid solo work
I guess one of the things I liked about the band, aside from Natalie's beautiful voice, was the guitar work of Robert Buck and Pete Lombardo.

21. "These Are Days" off of "Our Time In Eden".
Second choice: "Stockton Gala Days".

That CD and "In My Tribe" are both on my desert island list.

25. If you haven't heard Wishing Chair, you should give it a listen
to date, I think it was their finest work. The others have been solid albums for sure, but Wishing Chair was such a unique, ecclectic piece of work.
