What does it mean when someone posts a provocative thread...
and then just disappears, never to respond to anyone? :nuke:

Or even worse, posts a provocative thread and then responds to all the subsequent posts with "Because. n/t," "I say so, that's why. n/t," "You are misrepresenting my post. n/t," etc.

But the real question is... Why do I care?

Yes, interesting isn't it?
I think your "hit and run" comment was correct.

3. I have a good idea what that means
But I don't think DU rules allow me to voice my thoughts about it. ;-)

8. So what's the etiquette on responding to you own post?
At a certain point, it seems like you are just kicking your own thread. I was wondering this.

11. It's one thing to respond to your own message . . .
.. . another to answer some of the comments made by other posters. One is a shameless kick, the other is a discussion.

Not that I haven't given myself a shameless kick. But I usually post, "shameless kick".

14. I never do that...
Edited on Sat Mar-26-05 12:40 PM by Misunderestimator
well maybe once or twice I've kicked something by responding to my own post, but I rarely do that.

On edit... I'm kinda curious why you asked that now. Do you consider me responding to other people's posts as responding to my own posts? Are you asking if I should not respond to anyone's responses? Wouldn't that be kinda rude?

10. Well, if you're anything like me
You care because you see something like that and respond with a well reasoned, carefully worded, logically rational and factually accurate post which is never addressed.

My first husband used to infuriate me. We'd be on the verge of an argument and I'd have my debate all framed and be raring to go so I could devastate him with my rapier wit and logic and before we'd even start, he'd hold up one hand and say, "You're right" and walk away. :nuke:

I'd be standing there with my mouth hanging open just dying to trot out all this info and I'd be completely deflated. ~sigh~

I had a girlfriend like that once. She'd get in the car and drive away, making everything soooo much worse, so that I'd spend hours stewing on my argument until I'd analyzed it literally to death. No impulse to bring it up again by the time she dragged herself home. :nuke:
