I'm planning to because I was such a fan of the original when I was a kid. Used to watch it with my grandma!

It's being said this one is based more on the book - unlike the 70s series.

Still, I've heard the books were very watered down in regards to what the real life of Charles Ingalls.

2. here are some details for you
Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House on the Prairie
08:00 PM ET -ABC-

Despite its title, this limited series is in no way based on the 1970s TV series starring Michael Landon; instead, it hews more closely to the book by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Her autobiographical tome (the third in a series) was published in 1935 and told of her family's move across American wilderness in the late 19th century. Charles Ingalls (Cameron Bancroft, "24") decides to uproot his wife, Caroline (Erin Cottrell), and daughters Laura (Kyle Chavarria) and Mary (Danielle Ryan Chuchran) from their Wisconsin home to claim a new parcel of land in the Kansas prairie. Despite the inherent danger, the two girls marvel at the adventure in front of them. Once there, Charles gets to building their new family home.

4. a piece of trivia on the new version
America thinks it saw Little House on the Prairie from 1974-83 on NBC. It really saw only a small part of it. The hit series started out faithful to Laura Ingalls Wilder's books, but once it took off in the ratings, Michael Landon commandeered the concept and transformed the show into a star vehicle for himself. NBC gladly went along, given the ratings Landon produced.

Ed Friendly, who produced the first three seasons of the original, is getting a second chance from ABC to do the series the way he always has envisoned it, primarily as the story of Laura Ingalls, not Charles Ingalls, the character played by Landon. ABC commissioned a movie-length pilot, which premieres tonight, and four subsequent hourlong episodes. The network has an option to take the show to series if it is successful, Friendly said.

5. I'd love to see a decent version of her work....It captivated me as a kid
and the wretched 1970's version really disappointed me. I'll definitely give it a shot. Maybe without Landon hogging the cameras it'll stand a chance.

6. I remember the decapitation episode where...
...the husband whacks off his wife's head with an axe.

Scared the shit outta me when I was a kid and I couldn't sleep right for nights afterward.

That head on the plate...creepy!

That episode seemed very boundary pushing for it's time in retrospect especially for what was normally a light-hearted, sappy family show.

14. lol
There was the episode where Mary and her family are held hostage at gun point at her school for the blind. I always thought that was a little out of place of their normal material.

7. Half way through, I'm very impressed....
The story, though still far from the original, is engaging and I've found that its kept my attention more than I expected.

Plus, the daddy is gorgeous....

8. So since EisnerCorp is behind this, does that mean that Jessica Simpson...
...or her even less talented sister will be playing Nellie Olson?

16. Sadly, it isn't a literal interpretation....Still, its really good
Many scenes from the first two hours echo from the book. Maybe the states are rearranged and the timeline is a bit of a stretch, but the basics are there and the acting is good.

17. well... Jack was a brindle Bulldog; no one ever saw Caroline's hair down,
and where are the proper corsets?

Mary's not bossy enough. But then again.... It's a bajillion miles better than Landon and Gilbert, and this Charles is lovely eye-candy.

I'll give it 4 episodes. I missed most of this one, though. I don't generally watch the networks.

19. Movie versus books
I've read almost everything Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote, most recently an anthology of articles she and her daugher Rose Wilder Lane wrote. I didn't have a TV set during the Michael Landon series, so I saw few episodes. I found that interpretation a bit syrupy, though I thought the character interpretation was well done.

This interpretation was graphic, but stayed along the story lines..I'll wait until I see all four episodes before I comment further.

20. I too have read almost everything she wrote
I like this interpretation so far. It's very intense, much like I pictured the story from reading the books.

I liked the show when I was a little girl in the '70s but even then I felt that much was seriously glossed over and syrupy. This version is indeed very graphic - I jumped several times.
