1. Original Star Wars Trilogy over all
Then LOTR trilogy. Even if the new Star Wars kicks ass, it can't possibly be good enough to average out the last two to elevate the rating of the trilogy.

2. Star Wars was the greater cinematic achievement, But...
Star Wars owes its existence to the Lord of the Rings literary trilogy.

LOTR was where George Lucas got the trilogy idea.

4. and from watching the DVD extras
LOTR was a trilogy because post war publishers didn't want to print it all as one book (limited resources and stuff). funny the way that all works out

5. Lord of the Rings
I recently went back and watched the Star Wars trilogy, and it just seemed kind of silly. I dunno, probably because I hadn't watched it in years, and it had lost some of that magic that grabbed me when I was a kid. Who knows, maybe as time goes on I'll say the same thing about LOTR

6. LOTR is Star Wars' daddy in every conceivable way.
There is not one area where Star Wars dominates.

Star Wars promises a lot, but doesn't deliver very well. I think they could have been much better out of George Lucas' hands.

8. this is tough
Lord of the Rings are better films, but Star Wars conjures up childhood nostalgia for me. I had to vote for Star Wars.

9. STAR WARS
I mean...c'mon. Will people be having LORD OF THE RINGS conventions, and huge huge huge websites and such going all over the place 30 years from now? Pssh.

10. Star Wars!
LOTR = too many battle scenes, not enough Hobbiton.

I'm a dork, I get chills just thinking about Episode 3. The circle is complete! *sniff*
