Where's a decent, livable, affordable city to live in?

I really have got to get out of the suburbs. It's driving me crazy.

Any suggestions?

suburb, so the cost of living is pretty high. There's not much that doesn't seem affordable compared to here. ;)

Austin always rates highly on liveability. Plus, I live here, so that's a bonus. :-)

Lots of corporations there and it's becoming a happenin' place.

Although it would probably be too suburban for you, the cost of living is low and the quality of life is high. Good schools, good medical care, etc.

Do you have kids in school? Good schools are important
Are there health issues? How is medical care..how are their hospitals?
What kind of climate do you prefer?
Do you like the mountains, coast, or what exactly?
What about family? Do you want to be within a certain distance to them?
Certain areas have hazards, such as earthquakes, firestorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, flooding...what can you tolerate?
Do you prefer larger cities or smaller ones?
What are your cultural entertainment needs?
What is the cost of living?
Do they tax food...if so, how much?
Do you like areas with history, or brand new?

So, there are so many things to consider and only YOU know what suits YOU.
Think of other things which float your boat.
Rate what you "MUST HAVE" first...and your "WOULD BE NICE" next.

THEN begin your research. Once I find an area, I like to get their hometown newspaper to get the flavor.
Then, I will make a trip if it passes the newspaper test.

Hopefully, this post will make you think. It is expensive to move, and worse yet to move and realize you made a mistake.
