I'm curious. Just because most American mainstream stations don't play quality Rock and Roll these days, and hence they don't get played, does not mean 95 percent of their songs aren't still amazing.

influence.

And by the way you really don't get much more sheepish and bandwagony than having the Beatles as your number 1 favorite Band.

Maybe it isn't that bad when you grew up in the 60's. But if you're a young person who's favorite band is the Beatles you're just sucking up to old people and old critics.

I didn't, and sort of think that the successive generations of bands that have been influenced by the Beatles have often been much better. And the Beatles just don't have nearly as many songs that get me going as Oasis does. And Oasis isn't my favorite band, but it is one of them, and a big reason for that is probably immersing myself in all their albums from elementary school till today.

Who ARE probably my favorite group.

That being said, I'm also a big Oasis fan - so I'm sort of offended (tongue in cheek) by both your post and the one you replied to.

That being said, for Oasis, the glam and punk influence is just as strong. Honestly, their rockers don't sound anything like The Beatles - more like T.Rex, Slade, with big influence from The Stone Roses and The Sex Pistols thrown in. It's their orch-pop ballads that are similar to Revolver/Sgt. Pepper-era Beatles.

And I have absolutely no interest in hearing them. Frankly, not even having heard them, I loathe them with every fiber of my being. Why, you may ask? Seeing references to them ad nauseum from one particular DU'er.

Lesson to people who like a certain group or performer: don't freaking obsess about them on a message board every freaking day of the week. All you'll do is turn off the people who have never heard of your favorite.

I'm not saying that to be mean. I actually like some of their music, but I haven't heard much about them since the late '90s until all these threads about them on DU. Not that I have to hear about a band in order for them to be relevant, but I've been trying to follow newer bands, I guess.

who the heck is Oasis... I read about them here... know there are a few fans who claim superiority over the beatles... but I was in serious gradschool flow through a chunk of the nineties - and completely missed them. I seriously do not know a single song... who the heck is Oasis?
