question about leather coats
I have a leather coat that is darker around the neck because of oil from skin, wear, and so forth. How can I treat the leather so that it's all the same color?

1. Have you tried a good
leather cleaner (sometimes called leather balsam)or is it suede?

2. It isn't suede
It's the first leather coat I've owned and I don't know how to care for it.

Can you recommend a leather cleaner product?

3. Check your area for a dry cleaner that
specializes in leather. They aren't real common but if you can find one, they'll do a better job than you can on your own. It's real easy to ruin leather.

5. In the future,
wear a scarf to protect the neck of the coat.

6. Is it black leather?
That makes a difference. If it is black, then you can probably pick up leather cleaner anywhere they sell leather coats. I don't stick to any one brand. I just pick some up when I run out. I've had my leather jacket for 20 years now and it looks almost new. The main thing is keeping it from drying out. From what you said in your post, again I'm thinking black leather, the oils are actually what is causing it to be darker.

11. The leather treatment/balsam
will probably be the best bet. Leather has a tendency to crack if it dries out. oiling is the key to keeping it looking good.

9. Go to a leather goods store like Wilsons leather
and ask for their leather treatments, cleaner, conditioner etc.
