Tobago? Costa Rica? Bonaire? Been to any of 'em? Which is better?
They're all outside the hurricaine belt and our 20th wedding anniv. is in late October, so...

Help me out, here.

Best snorkelling/diving?
Decent prices?
Nice beaches?
Good food?

etc.

1. Quepos, Costa Rica
Check out Maneual Antonio National Park. It has a very accepting gay population as well. I had not known that Costra Rica is the only country in the western hemisphere that has gays and lesbians in their constitution. That was a pleasant surprise.

3. Bonaire = best diving, hands down.
Dunno about snorkeling there - I'd assume it's great, too. Lots of reef in the 20-35 foot depth range. Excellent food all around. Nice places to stay. Some pretty cool topside activities, but it's mostly for divers.

6. Been to Bonaire, close to Tobago
Edited on Sun Mar-27-05 01:51 PM by MuseRider
never been to Costa Rica. Bonaire is a lovely place to dive if you like easy, beautiful diving. It is also crowded a lot of the time. I took some great diving courses there though so it was really worth it. If you go try Zen Diving, it is the greatest. As far as prices, we went with our little dive club and it was a long time ago so I can't help you there. The island is deserty and kind if interesting, The restaurants were not terribly good then. Curaco was also nice, great dives, less crowded.

I have not heard about diving in Tobago, we wanted to sail to Trinidad and Tobago but could not do it, it was just months before we started bombing Grenada and everyone was nervous about being around there.

My most favorite place is Tortola, BVI. I have been there maybe 5 times. The diving is great. They do not allow fishermen to fish out the channel. It is mostly pretty easy diving, nothing too deep and LOTS of reef life. The people are the greatest, the island is interesting and lots of fun. There is a lot of sailing there so there are alot of people from all over the world and the bars are packed with fun. The Prospect Reef hotel would be really nice. They have tidal pools right outside the rooms that are packed full of interesting creatures to snorkel with. If I never went anyplace else it would be a toss up between there and Hawaii. I am going off to look for a couple of pictures I have from there if you are interested let me know and I will post them. It truly is heaven there.

11. No it isn't
it seems to peek in August and September. Still, I think they rarely get hit badly (yes I know, little comfort there). I would certainly check it out though. I looked around and did not come up with much but I am certain the info is out there.

Here is the info on the resort http://www.thefarm.org/general/index.html

Here is the info on Dive Tortola located in Prospect Reef
http://www.divetortola.com/index.htm

It is seriously my most favorite place in the world. The dive staff is wonderful, or at least they have been everytime I have been there and the staff seems to want to stay there. It is a comfortable place to dive if you are not very experienced and a wonderful place to dive if you are. I have been to each of those sites listed numerous times and they are never boring. Saw a Jewfish (or whatever the new name for them is) the size of a schoolbus in the Rhone. The entire island is beautiful and lots of fun. There are several more expensive, fancy resorts, Long Bay is one on the other side of the island close to Sopers Hole, a wonderful very colorful mooring place. Yikes, I could go on and on but I won't.

16. Ocotal, Tamarindo, Punta Leona, Dominical, Manuel Antonio, Montezuma...
To be honest I have no idea which ones are the best, but all of those are popular beaches for snorkeling. Most of them are on the Pacific Coast.
