Can I still be a Democrat if I buy a Honda CRV?
I'm tired of leeching off my friends with trucks when I need stuff hauled around. But, on the other hand, I don't want to be one of those "yuppie city-swelling SUV people". Any advice?

1. No. Turn your membership card in now.
;) :hi:

FWIW, I drive a Chrysler Pacifica...a supposed SUV which is only an SUV because Chrysler can't seem to get its gas mileage down.

3. Don't they get like 32/mpg?
I think we'll let you stay. As long as you don't show up at the "meetings" in a hummer. I'll kick your ass out myself if you do that!

5. Try the Element....
It is based on a Civic chassis, so it gets better mileage.

7. Proud owner right here!
I love my Honda CRV. It is a great car. In fact, I have never enjoyed driving a car as much as this one.

8. a light pick-up might work for ya.
that's what i bought to 'haul stuff around in'. mine has a small V-6 in it. also, extened cab, power everything, auto trans, cranking tunes, acceptable gas mileage.

i loves my truck. looks like this one

9. CR-V's or a Forester
Or you could investigate a Subaru Forester. They are nice rides too and have almost as much cargo space as a CR-V. The newsgroup folks have posted up to 28mpg hwy FWD version, AWD version is about 27mpg highway.

Have you considered Subaru Forester? I would have bought a Forester but considering the rest of my immediate family is or will be over 6 feet tall, wouldn't have worked....

10. I actually haven't considered the forester....
There's no Subaru dealer on my island, so getting and maintaining it might be a problem.
I'm just glad to hear that I can get the Honda without being ostracized by my peers. :)

11. How about the Element?
Edited on Sun Mar-27-05 07:56 PM by fortyfeetunder
CRVs are also low emission vehicles, and that is another plus. And they are quite reliable cars.

If you are on the island, and I take it you are on an outer Hawaiian island, why not look at a Honda Element? It has slightly lower gas mileage than CRV (I think 2-3 miles/gallon) but it has a nearly washable floor, has plenty of storage space, you can actually camp out in it. Now that is what I'd get for living in Hawaii.

When you go looking for CRV's go look at an Element and test drive one. I think the Element is based on a Civic frame also.
