They are destroying my aina (land)
The army just released a commercial showcasing Pohakuloa on the island of Hawaii.

What are they doing there? They are actually destroying the native eco-system there and blowing up the land there.

What was a quote from the commericial?

Sometimes, you have to tear things down and build things up again to make it work....

hmmm...sound familiar?

I don't want anymore military here in Hawaii. There is already a huge military population here and more than enough bases. There is Schofield Barracks, Kaneohe Marine Corps Base, Hickam Air Force Base, Pohakuloa, Barbers Point Naval Station, CentCom (Headquarters for the Navy's Pacific Base) and everything else.

Most of the people who are moving here are military and Republican. They also don't respect the cultural norms nor the eco-system here.

The army just burned 2500 acres of an endangered forest (on accident they said). They have also been using sonar testing and that's been killing the whales here.

Enough is enough

Pardon my rant.

1. If it Makes You Feel Any Better
some of those facilites you listed are probably on Rumsfeld's list of bases to get the axe.

Although sometimes the military preserves land better than private developers. I remember being on Kauai in the 80's, and stopping on the southwest coast by Barking Sands AFB(?) Beautiful, completely uninhabited stretches of beach.

2. You're right...the military takes care of the environment
But they've been having a poor track record here in Hawaii lately. They burned an entire forest of endangered plants and plus the sonar testing.
