Ok, who here is from New Orleans?
I'm spending late next week in New Orleans - any Evil Duers from the Big Easy?

If you are renting a car, he is only a couple hours away in charming Lafayette...and Lafayette parties on FRIDAY afternoons (if they still do this) the whole town closes early and a big street party ensues in the downtown area.

also the home of one of my FAVE southern haunts Pernaud's..a most excellent restaurant.

3. no rental car
everything I'm doing is in the hotel where I'm staying. It's a business trip, I doubt I'll get out and have fun when I'm there. They might as well have this meeting in the middle of nowhere.

7. Don't count on it.
If you are in New Orleans, you will be out partying. It is unfathomable that you will not get out; that is what the city is all about.

And it turns out my hotel room has a view of the French Quarters

I grew up in Louisiana and spent the better part of my formative years in New Orleans. Ask me anything you want. I love the city.

I'll go check Offbeat to see who is playing around town next week.

6. Okay, here's the good music going on while you are in town.

Oct. 23 - Rosie Ledet at Rock n' Bowl. Rosie will be joined by several great Zydeco nmusicians. Thursday is s low night around town and this looks like the best show. Rock n' Bowl is worth the trip even if you don't like Zydeco. It is an old bowling alley that has turned into one of the hot spots in town, while still being a bowling alley. If you like hot music, cheap drinks and dancing under a disco ball into the wee hours, this is the spot for you.

Oct 24. Friday has several great choices:

Astral Project is playing at the Funky Butt. Astral Project is one of the hottest jazz/funk fusin bands you will ever hear. THe music is a little heady, but the dance floor is packed when the Project is on stage.

CoCo Robicheaux hits the stage at Seaport Cafe. CoCo is a gifted blues/R&B singer and always puts on a good show.

Leo Nocentelli & Friends play at Tipitinas. Tipitinas is worth the trip just to see the bust of Professor Longhair and see some music in one of the more storied venues in the city. Leo is the guitarist from the Funky Meters. His friends are all stars of funk and the show will rock until early morning.

Irma Thomas plays at Treasure Chest. Irma is the Soul Queen of New Orleans. Phenomenal is an understatement.

Of all these show, I would have a really tough time choosing between Irma and Leo.

Oct. 25. The hits keep coming:

Kermit Ruffins plays at the Blue Nile. Kermit is considered the second coming of Louis Armstring in New Orleans. If you can get to this show, it is one you won't forget.

Big Chief Monk Boudreaux graces the Funky Butt. Mardi Gras Indians are part of the unique history of New Orleans. Monk is not only one of the most influential of all the Indians, he is also a great musician.

The Iguanas hit the stage at Rock n Bowl. The Iguanas are a rock, jazz, salsa, etc. fusion band. They are one of my very favorite New Orleans bands and their shows at Rock n' Bowl are legendary.

Have fun.

11. I'm leaving late Friday night
When we saw our ticket was going to be $1200 roundtrip out of Philly, my boss said I could stay an extra night and get a cheaper flight on Saturday.

It was very tempting. It would be nice to have one night to be able to visit New Orleans and enjoy the city.

BUT.......

LynneSin is dedicated to the peace movement and there is a major-ass protest in Washington DC on Saturday. I'm taking the bus from Wilmington DE and joining my fellow peaceniks on the trip to the protest.

If I stayed overnight in New Orleans on Friday, I wouldn't be able to make it to DC in time to join in the protest.

The sacrifices I make in the name of peace!!

13. Oh so sad....
It is almost not worth going if you can't go out to hear music. Fortunately you still have the food. Even the most faithful dieters must set the diet aside when in New Orleans.

How long will you be in town?

14. Tues-Friday
I know, it really tore me up when my boss said he had no problem with me staying the extra night, but I've been looking forward to this protest now for a few months and I know there will be plenty of Evil DUers in attendence. I guess it's another reason to be ticked at Bush and his illegal pre-emptive war: Lynne can't stay an extra night in New Orleans cause she has to get back to DC and protest his sorry-ass war!!!

9. Are you staying in the quarter? Or not?
If you're staying in the quarter, just get out and check it all out. Everyone has to see Bourbon St. at least once in their life.

12. yep - I have a few of the French Quarter - wanna come hang out with me
Although I have no plans of actually going out any night. I've taken other courses for my job, but none of them have a certification test at the end of it. I must pass that test
