4. Hey, how come in that poll...
You made the tally line for the Red Sox the blue one, and the tally line for the Cubs red? Just wondering...:eyes:

But it's gotta be the Billygoat one...I mean, at least in the last fifty-eight years the Red Sox have actually MADE IT to the World Series!

In fact, at one point during the game last night, I turned to my wife (a suffering Cubs fan herself!) and said, "Why didn't the Wrigley Field staff back in 1945 just let that damn goat in?".

B-)

5. How did the curse begin
for the Cubs in the first place? Right now, California is cursed, but you all know that.

8. I think the only impact they have is on the people who believe them.
It's the same as with any superstition or religion. There is such a thing as the "placebo" effect.

7. The White Sox are cursed, too
after the "Black Sox" scandal in 1919.

9. People forget about the White Sox...
I think it's been like 50 years since they've been to the world series also. The Cubs curse overshadows them. I wonder if the goat man cursed all of Chicago even though he was only out to get the Cubs?

10. I don't know what to belive...
I believe there might be something of a curse on the teams. But it's silly to think that they haven't let it get to them mentally over the years. THat's partially why they still struggle today.

11. The Merkle curse!
It's the real Cubbie curse. The goat is just a ruse.

12. The SI curse is REAL

SI Cover Jinx Takes Its Toll

Thursday, October 16, 2003; Page D02

The Sports Illustrated cover jinx is alive and well. Since the magazine put Oregon on its cover on Sept. 22, following a 31-27 victory over Michigan, the Ducks have gone 0-3 and been outscored 114-30 in two Pacific-10 Conference games.

HAHA!

This was just the latest SI cover jinx to hit college football. On Nov. 22, 1993, the magazine had Notre Dame on its cover after it beat Florida State, and a week later the Irish lost at home to Boston College. On Aug. 13, 2001, Oregon State graced the cover and was hailed as the No. 1 team in college football. The Beavers went on to finish 5-6. © 2003 The Washington Post Company

BOO!

"I do try to make it a point to punish secondaries because most of them don't like to hit," he said. "We're known for our nastiness." S. Jackson

13. So that's what really happened to the Cubs.
Bartman and Gonzales had no chance. They were under the spell of the SI curse!

14. Off topic answer - The Hope Diamond curse is alive and well!
Get rid of the damned thing - chop it up into bitty pieces before we're all kaput! It's no wonder American democracy is dying. Listen up, curators of the DC Smithsonian (keepers of the rock) or else baseball won't mean a thing to anybody!

My eyes have beheld this awesome stone, and I wondered just what part of my puny little tax dollar buys its "evil" keep?

If anyone can contact the Lady in the Lake, she needs to tell us how to pull the sword out of the rock and rid America of this piece of rarified carbon. Then, perhaps, Camelot will return!
