7. Ku-thul-hu
H.P. Lovecraft (who is primarily responsible for the cultural phenomenon that is Cthulhu) wrote that it is a translation of a name in the demon tongue that can not be properly pronounced by humans. The best approximation he gave is that it is supposed to sound like a gutteral bark from the back of the throat.

8. I've always heard
Ka-thoo-loo.

But given that the HP Lovecraft was British and it's all fiction... who knows.

9. Um no
Lovecraft was born in Providence RI, and the settings for many, if not the vast majority, of his stories are based on locations in New England. There's a farm museum about 20 miles from my house here in MA, and they have a cider press that was used as his model for a sacrificial altar in a story.

"HOWARD PHILLIPS LOVECRAFT was born at 9 a.m. on August 20, 1890, at his family home at 454 (then numbered 194) Angell Street in Providence, Rhode Island. His mother was Sarah Susan Phillips Lovecraft, who could trace her ancestry to the arrival of George Phillips to Massachusetts in 1630. His father was Winfield Scott Lovecraft, a traveling salesman for Gorham & Co., Silversmiths, of Providence. "

11. H.P. Lovecraft wasn't British.
You're thinking D.H. Lawrence.

14. He really, really WANTED to be British . . .
But it didn't work out. He had to settle for "down-at-heel starving-artist master of eldricht dread -

or something like that.

5. Is it from Lovecraft?
I was hardly out of childhood when I read him, but that sounds like his word?

15. After all, how can you beat his platform?
Q) What is Great Cthulhu's position on obvious cult fronts (such as Microsoft, Lego and most gaming companies); will he/she/it treat them as previous administrations have? (i.e. pretend they don't exist or support them/crack down on them) Also and more important will he treat all cultists equally, or give his particular thrill kill cultists preference leaving (for example) shub-niggurath disciples such as Clarence Thomas and Bob Packwood out in the cold?

A) Good question. Within the first 100 days of its reign, the Great Cthulhu pledges to destroy the following cults:
Disney.
Mass Media.
Yuppies.
Kentucky Fried Chicken.
People who use the phrase "information superhighway".

Cthulhu cultists will be given the following priveleges:
They will die last.

Because you're crunchy.

Vote Cthulhu in 2004, why settle for a lesser evil?

On edit: Some folks have advocated making Plush Cthulhu the unofficial DU mascot and I support that.
